Hi so im looking for laptop to use during University which would include using it for web browsing and Office 365 while also using it for casual gaming mainly overwatch 2 and Genshin impact.

I've looked into some laptops which would be good for these.

Lenovo LOQ 15

CPU - AMD Ryzen 7 7840HS - 3.8gz (speed)

GPU - NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 (dedicated)

RAM - 32gb (DDR 5)

Storage - 1TB

Screan - 1920 X 1080 (resolution)

The ASUS Vivobook Pro 16X M7600QE

CPU - AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX

GPU - NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 4 Ti (dedicated)

RAM - 32gb

Storage - 1TB

Screen - ultra-HD 4K Oled display

However I've heard that the Vivobook 16 is more for video editing and content creation and not gaming. Will these be still ok or will they be overkill my budget is like 1200 or so as im looking to get it on black friday or student discount based on the sites I'm looking yo buy them from.

I would go for the Lenovo LOQ 15 because if you go for the 4k screen it would be useless for a moblie Rtx 3050 ti because it’s not that powerful. I would also go for the Lenovo LOQ 15 because of the upgraded specs and support for dlss frame gen.

If u get the lenovo, also get a decent external monitor, as judging by my cheap lenovo with 45% NTSC, it aint too great

How is a 4K screen useless for "web browsing and Office 365"?

Sure you wont be able to push 4K for gaming, but more resolution can make it much more comfortable to use for productiivity, especially if the quality of the panel overall is better.

Overkill?  Mayve, but when were comparing a low-tier screen to a top-tier screen, its really no contest.

ASUS B650E-F GAMING WIFI + R7 7800X3D + 2x Corsair Vengeance 32GB DDR5-6000 CL30-36-36-76  + ASUS RTX 4090 TUF Gaming OC

Router:  Intel N100 (pfSense) Backup: GL.iNet GL-X3000/ Spitz AX Switches: Netgear MS510TXUP, MS510TXPP, GS110EMX
WiFi6: Zyxel NWA210AX (1.7Gbit peak at 160Mhz) WiFi5: Ubiquiti NanoHD OpenWRT (~500Mbit at 80Mhz)
ISPs: Zen Full Fibre 900 (~930Mbit down, 115Mbit up) + Three 5G (~1200Mbit down, 115Mbit up, variable)

I got a cheap Lenovo many years back which turned out to have a TN screen (at the time I wasn't aware anyone even still used those as IPS was so common), my goodness that was practically unusable.

That said, even bad IPS screens aren't that terrible these days, but with OLED as the other option it would be crazy to choose the dramatically worse screen.

I have a cheaper lenovo, 1080p, 60hz, 45% NTSC, it isnt that color accurate OR responsive, there is nothing that good about it, maybe except the viewing angles not being bad. Even isnt that bright (rated at 250 nits). If i get another lenovo someday, ill try to get the more decent screens

The problem I had was all of that plus bad viewing angles, there was no angle you could get good visibility across the whole screen, it was that bad.  It was markedly the worst screen I've ever seen, including against my ancient Pentium 4 from before IPS was even a thing on laptops.

On top of that it had the BIOS set to throttle to minimum clock speeds at something like 66% battery life.

Yeah this seemed to be a way to compensate for the bad battery life or something, which is odd given it made it basically unusable after an hour or so.
