so am I trying to install macOS Sierra on my a1286 MacBook Pro useing a usb installer but it keeps telling me “an error occurred while preparing installation. Try running the application again” and when I check the installer logs it says “error 110 couldn’t mount base system dmg” “failed to mount outer dmg” I don’t know what to do could someone help me

If that's an A1286 Core 2-based 2008 MacBook Pro, you can't run Sierra on it.

 

Highest macOS version you can run is OSX 10.11.6 El Capitan.

Have you tried installing an older version of macOS(such as 10.10 or 10.11), and then manually updating it to Sierra or High Sierra from inside macOS?

it  does not have any version of macos installed let me try that
