Hey, I would like to replace my thermal paste, but I am not that experienced with PC building. A friend of mine handled it for me previously (the only thing I have ever done is install a RAM stick – I know, not very impressive). However, my friend is currently quite busy, so I'll have to do it myself this time. The part that worries me a bit is having to remove the old thermal paste. I slightly dampened a piece of cloth with some cleaning alcohol (I'm not sure if this is the best method, but I saw it somewhere). I'm just concerned that the cloth might be too wet, and I could end up damaging components. So, I was wondering, what is the safest way to remove the thermal paste? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Is there a particular reason why you want to replace the thermal paste?

Typically, I use isopropyl alcohol pads to kinda grab the paste. I then use tissues to clean and follow up with a Q-tip in 91% isopropyl alcohol to ensure there is no residue remaining. Do this on both the IHS of the CPU and the heatsink. Make sure it's completely dry and then apply thermal paste and put back together again.
