.exe not working

I don't exactly know if this is the right place to be asking, but I really need help. Today I started up my computer and I got a whole bunch of error popups the moment I logged in. None of my start-up programs were starting. After I closed all of the error codes for each and every start-up program I noticed that I could no longer run any of my .exe files. I got onto chrome through a desktop shortcut (which wasn't a .exe file) and searched the problem. Several solutions were given but none of them worked when I tried them. If anyone has ever experienced this problem I'd be really thankful if you would tell me how you solved it.

What were the error messages saying?

Did you do anything (e.g: install updates or new software etc) on your previous session?

All it said was "windows can't find a program to open this file" and it gave options to search the web for a program or continue, And I didn't install anything on my last session.

It's either hdd dying or maybe virus. You should try restoring windows with install disc.
