Hello,

I'm currently planning my first PC build, and I'm having a hard time choosing a GPU. It might not be the smartest move, but I really want a sff pc, I have a nice promo for an NZXT H1 2022 and with 140 mm AIO my CPU choice is i5-13600KF, both for its performance and cooling capabilities of the AIO. Things I'll be doing on this computer includes basic productivity and playing current games at 1440p. My question is what GPU should I use? As far as my research in this topic went, my options are:

  1. RTX 4070 - budget friendly option, but it doesn't seem very powerful, and it has 12 GB of VRAM,
  2. RTX 4070 Ti - more powerful, but still 12 GB of VRAM, which might not be enough in 4/5 years,
  3. RX 7900 XT - has tons of VRAM, but it's quite pricey, the second downside is that DLSS is looking better than FSR (especially with no FSR 3 in sight) and Nvidia cards are better at ray tracing,
  4. RX 7800 XT - it's not out yet but 16 GB of VRAM sounds like the sweet spot, but with no price or performance, I'm not sure how reasonable it would be to buy it compared to the 3 above.

This actually very dependent on the game, some games shows FSR is better and vice versa.

Realistically tho, when will you upgrade? If you intend to keep the GPU for at least more than 5 years, then go bigger.

Occassionaly visits the forum when I have nothing to do at work.

Hey heads up the h1's aio CAN NOT handle a 13600k. It goes to 100c just gaming so not even being fully loaded.

That cooler was designed for 65w intel tdp chips. The 13600k is well over double

Many people report this around the web.

So you should reallt pick another case as even with a good undervolt it's still 95c at best.

I have used FSR twice which is not much at all, so I guess it was an opinion found on the internet and based on my small experience.

I want to skip the next gen for sure and see how the one after that performs, so I guess I'm going to use it for at least 4 years, but is there a point in buying a powerful GPU when the CPU won't keep up?

A 13600k that isnt hindered by a bad cooler like in the h1 will tun a 4090 no sweat. Sure in csgo you'll miss out on 80 fps. So instead.of 800 fps you'll get like 720 so to say :p.

But really the 13600k is beyond plenty. However in the case you picked it simply cant be cooled

120/140mm aio's are usuallt at best cooling level of a hyper 212. Which isnt a great cooler anymore either.

Well that is a thing I was concerned about, but it varies, You can find people on the Internet struggling with this config as well as people who don't have a problem. I guess it might be a pump issue maybe.

See I have personal experience with this case and a 10700k. It reached near 100c all the time during more intensive games in 2021   Cinebench it or whatever instant 100c. Advised my friend against it but they did it anyway.

Well games got more intense and 100c became the norm even after the bandaid fix undervolt. Eventually it was simply replaced by a better older itx case I had a round and a arctic 240mm aio.

The 13600k runs just as hot as that 10700k. Its just ok now but wont be in the future.

So I advise you to opt for a better case. Plenty small itx cases that support large air coolers or larger aio's. Whilst also supporting normal full size gpu's.

Bad pumps are also suprisingly common in this one which is not good and shows the quality of this unit. And bonus is you CAN NOT replace it with a normal aio if this one ever fails as it uses an aio with the pump in the reservoir as the pump would else be at the top of the loop and thus recieve all the air in it and perform badly + die early

Well, I was looking for a GPU recommendation and end up with a need for another case, which is a shame since, as I mentioned before, I have a really nice promo for it. 😄

How nice is it really? considering that its a pretty old case, newer case might just be a few bucks away and would blow the doors in buildability. A lot of impressive tall ITX cases are made these past few years.

I like it, it is smaller than for example Corsair 2000D Airflow, and the look was fine for me. There might be really cool tall itx cases out there, but I guess they need to be available on the local market.

In Poland it's quite a low price I guess. But regardless of the case I will pick, is there a good answer for choosing a GPU? Since you can almost always go bigger and even RTX 4070 will handle 1440p at lower settings in 5 years. Should I, while buildnig a pc, max out my budget and buy RX 7900 XT or safe few bucks and get RTX 4070 / Ti or future RX 7800 XT?

260 for n h1??? Yiiiiikes yeah for that money you have a good case like a lian li atx, 240mm aio and a psu. All better.

What store you buying from? I can have a look there for a combi

Id opt for a 6950xt id price is right as it's faster than a 4070 by a bit and has 16gb of vram so that wont be an issue as 12gb isnt exactly that much these days.

No current GPU would be "enough" in 4-5 years no matter the VRAM if by enough you mean playing at the same resolution and graphical fidelity as you did when you bought it. Even a 4090 will turn into a 1440p GPU sooner or later and in 5 years it might be a 1080p GPU. So I would look at the feature set - how much are you actually interested in Ray Tracing, do you think DLSS is so much better than FSR that you have to have it and do you need CUDA for productivity. If the answer to all those questions is no then AMD is a much better value.

Ada is worse than Ampere which is worse than Fermi, change my mind.
