Hi friends, i
m currently looking to upgrade my pc, I feel there is a bottleneck somewhere. And I can`t seem to put my finger on it. I am not a computer spec god, so I humbly come to you for advice. Is there some parts that I can change so I can boost my pc into a gaming machine?

Thanks in advance.

Why would you buy a 8700K today ?

A decent aircooler would be a way better choice than that 120mm water cooler

You can buy W10 or W11 for around 15.- , probably you have a W7,8 or 10 licence lying somewhere anyway.

Everything is wrong ...

If anything, looking at the list, I would probably upgrade the platform to something more recent.
My suggestion would be something of the following;

Alternatively, if you want to go for DDR5 I would most likely recommend something among the lines of;

The list is subjective as both Gigabyte and other manufacturers have similar types of motherboards at the same price range, likewise I went with the 6000Mhz CL30 RAM modules as they appear (to me at least) to be the best bang for the buck. I would encourage you to go the DDR5 route as those components will likely last the longest and keep you open for possible upgrades down the line.

I'm sure other people will have their input. 🙂
EDIT: Changed the 13700k to the 13600k and the DDR5 memory to G.Skill Flare X5 and reflected Norwegian prices

EDIT 2: After looking at other information presented I believe the recommendation from @SorryBella is a much better suggestion.

wow

Yeah this alone veto any Intel chip, unless if you play on private server.

Upgrade to W11 through linking your W10 key to a Microsoft account, and then log into your new PC on installation with your Microsoft account. Also look into selling that Z370 platform, LGA1151 boards and i7 from that era is lucratively priced right now.

Also, no case? Ill assume it supports ATX board with any PSU length then.

Future-resisting the PSU side, ditching 120mm AIO on its last leg for air cooler, and also a huge IPC and cache count jump.

I'm guessing this is due to add-ons such as Weakauras having a higher demand on the CPU and preferring multicore workload?

In Europe the price for a 7700x vs 13600K seem to be around a 2€ difference, hence the question.
I didn't think about the impact of add-ons in CPU workload so this also helps me in giving people better advice in future situations. 😅

More like less player call stressing less on the CPU cache. a member of the forum did a pretty good summary of his own finding.

This is my existing parts list. That im looking to upgrade 🙂

All of those games substantially benefit from having the best CPU you can get, especially WoW. If you're like most WoW players (I played myself from tbc to the early part of Shadowlands S4) most of your gametime is in WoW, therefore having the best CPU available would be my recommendation.

If I still played WoW, I would be able to provide a comprehensive recommendation on whether 3D v-cache is worth it for that game specifically, since I could simply test CCD0 vs CCD1 in various environments. I did test between a 3950x and 5800x3D which saw a disproportionate +50% increase in framerate at 4K ultra on a 6900XT which gave me the conclusion that 3D v-cache is beneficial. My brother now has that 5800x3D and kit of 3600MHz RAM that replaced his R5 3600 and 3200MHz kit, where he reported a 100% increase in framerate (he still plays WoW, classic and retail) which I also observed in the short testing I did before and after the upgrade. Mind you my 3950x had a better memory configuration and wasn't a stock clocked 'non-X' CPU.

I at least logged in during a free weekend just to test it for the post that @SorryBella linked, which showed a substantial difference. Mind you this was in Orgrimmar which was at a low population in both scenarios, so nothing crazy.

If another free weekend happens, I could install it momentarily, although I don't think I'll get the same population numbers without being in the new DF city to properly show a difference. That would be with CCD0 vs CCD1 though since I know the 4790k is going to struggle. I'd likely just test out Orgrimmar or Stormwind on a high population Classic server (already dreading the idea of walking to Stormwind, but I still have friends who regularly play Classic that could help me out).

The best CPU out right now in this context being a 7800x3D, to answer the question, lol.

Builder/Enthusiast/Overclocker since 2012 with a focus on SFF/ITX since 2014.

Thank you for referring me to that thread, it was quite an insight that I was unaware of!

Likewise, thank you for running those tests, your thread on the matter was quite the insight and the data points you collected are interesting to look at.
I'm running a 9900K on my own system and looking back I notice a lot of extra processor load during peak hours when I stand in Dalaran, I always attibuted this to server lag but your thread on the matter has given something new to look at.

I will definitely be changing my recommendation defaults after reading through the thread.
