If I upgrade my CPU, will I actually notice much difference?

I have a couple of questions on whether it's worth upgrading my system or not.

So, my system is it stands looks like this -

Asus TUF 4090

32Gb Corsair Vengeance 4000Mhz

Intel 10900K

Asus Rog Maximus XII Hero

Samsung 970 Evo+ (boot drive)

Samsung 970 Evo+ (game drive)

4k 120Mhz Asus Rog screen

My PC is primarily used for gaming, from Minecraft right up to Starfield when it comes out and everything inbetween. It's also used for work, but tbh, what I do for work can be happily done on a potato!

After reading an article the 15900k in development , I can't help but feel that my 10900K is getting a bit creaky. It's served me perfectly well and I don't have any complaints about it, even now.

While I know that the latest and greatest CPU's will easily leave mine in the dust, will I actually notice a difference where it matters most, in games?

While I'm here, another thought that has crossed my mind on occasion - does my current CPU act as a bottleneck for the GPU and if I were to upgrade, am I going to be gaining much extra from the GPU itself?

Ye it would help if you upgraded your cpu. But don't do it just yet since it's only a matter of time until intel releases 14th gen

Message me on discord (bread8669) for more help

Difference between your chip and the 7800X3D (fastest gaming CPU currently on the market) is ~20% when using a 4090 at 4K (see TechPowerUp's numbers), which I'd say anything over 10% is noticeable. It won't be night and day, so don't be losing sleep because you don't have the latest and greatest CPU, but it is still a noticeable uplift for games, especially in Minecraft and presumably Starfield where the 3D VCache does a ton for performance.

Still don't upgrade until 14th gen (13th gen refresh) is announced in about a month, we don't know how it'll stack up just yet and it might be an even better option for what you're trying to do.

Just like to throw in the mix that I've currently eyeing up Samsung's new 57" G9 beasty. Before I start throwing new stuff at the PC, I may be getting one of these first.

2700X to 5800X3D.

Went from unstable 60-80fps in Apex Legends to stable 144fps constantly with the 5800X3D. Other games saw much better changes as well. Would recommend a CPU upgrade, though I play currently 1080p so it is CPU important. As I plan to play 4k or if you plan to play at higher resolutions and not much e-sports shooters, a CPU upgrade might not be a must.

Though even your CPU is below what I'd want to play with for even new released like Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty
