6-pin+8+connection question.

Go to solution Solved by LawrenceBarnes2013,

So you're saying if possible use two cables?

Yes, it would be better, much more Safe, plug that 6Pin and leave the extra 2Pins+ a a single  8Pin into the 8Pin

I'm expecting delivery of a Gigabyte R9 290 Windforce today. I've only ever had GPUs with a single 6-pin connection this is the first time I've had one with a 6+8. My question is do I use two cables or can I use a daisy chain cable? (I hope you know what I mean)

You can use the daisy chained cable no problem.

The cable that has a single connection to your PSU but ends with an 8 pin and a 6 pin? Yep, no problem.

I don't have a cable like that I have modular cables, the cable goes like this...Bit that plugs into psu>>>space>>>6-pin+2-pin(to make it 8)>>>space>>>6-pin+2-pin

Most psu's come with PCI-e cables that are 8 pin at the psu and have an 8 and a 6+2 plug at the gpu end.

well, in that case, no, if it even has a single 12V rail, for a 290, Plugging a single 6Pin to 6pin, + a single 8Pin to 8Pin, would be the optimal Choice

That's what I've got but one cable has two 6+2 on it.

just plug that 6Pin and leave the 2Pin hanging, Plus an 8Pin
