CPU always overheating.

Go to solution Solved by TeraSeraph,

Get a contact plate from ThermalRight.

I've got the i9-13900KF and no matter what I do It's always overheating, around 45-55 while idle and 90-100 while gaming, I've upgraded to a bigger case for better airflow (7000D), upgraded to a better cooler (Deepcool LT720), installed better thermal paste (thermal grizzly kryonaut), even tried undervolting and underclocking my CPU but no matter what I do I still get the same temperatures. The screws on my cooler wont tighten anymore so I don't think its an issue w/ my cooler not being installed correctly, I've just got no idea what to do.

is it throttling ?

HWiNFO64 is good at showing that.

Is it currently undervolted/underclocked ? how much ?

RPM from Pump and Fans at full load ?

Oh...do you know about this  :

? (there are also cheaper alternatives available)

Yeah it always throttles, goes down to like 4500 MHz clock speed at the mid to high 90s, It's not currently undervolted/underclocked but when it was it was 5400MHz and 1.3V. All fans & pump are set to run at max speed 24/7.

Did you remove the sticker on the cooler's contact area

Some people forget to do that

There was a plastic cover and I removed it.

Your ambient? Also, have you try remounting it? Your mounting might be wack, apply even pressure in a cross pattern and only go hand tight, a quarter turn extra max.

I don't know what ambient is, but I've tried remounting the CPU cooler twice, the last time I made sure to make sure everything is as tight as possible and even added a bit more thermal paste but I doesn't seem to have made a difference.

Why don't you have it undervolted now ?

Also, I found another method for undervolting (following a tutorial) Now I'm on a "CPU Lite Load Mode 9 instead of Mode 12 curve" which got me even lower. (might be MSI specific)

Just now, TeraSeraph said:

Is the pump making noises? If you pinch the tube can you feel the water flowing through? Do you have the AIO hooked to your Pump header?

I'm pretty sure the pump is making noises, its quite hard to press down on the tubes but I do think I can feel water flowing through, the AIO is connected to the designated AIO pump header.

When I had it undervolted I had a worse cooler so I thought I'd be able to run it at its normal speed once I got this cooler.

Undervolted not underclocked. There's no reason to not undervolt if your undervolt is stable. I think.

if the legs are mounted to the underside of the cooler, and the bolts are so tight u cant make em tighter with ur hands ... u might have a bad unit... clogged or somthing

but i would try a "out side the case  run"

like this:

When installing the contact plate I realise that I had been using the wrong spacers the entire time, I now get 30 degrees idle and 50 degrees gaming.
