Budget (including currency): ~3000€

Country: Germany

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for:

  • 50% gaming (Witcher 3, Hunt Showdown, Resident Evil VIII, Minecraft heavily modded, Dead Island 2, Cyberpunk... and lots more)
  • 30% 3D work(Blender), light video editing (DaVinci Resolve)
  • 20% programming (VSC, IntelliJ)
  • some light streaming

Other details

I wanna build a completely new PC asap since my old one is really struggling at 1440p @144Hz and can't upgrade to Windows 11. No need for peripherals, but would love to have the new PC 6 years+ aswell.

My Current rig:

  • CPU: Intel I7 5820K @ 4,2 GHz (with Corsair Hydro Series H110i)
  • Motherboard: MSI X99A Raider
  • GPU: Palit GeForce GTX 1080
  • Sound Card: Creative sound blaster Z
  • RAM: 16GB HyperX FURY
  • 600 Watt be quiet! Pure Power 9
  • NZXT S340
  • Storage:
    • SSD, 256GB Kingston KC400
    • NVMe SSD, Sabrent SB-Rocket 2TB
    • HDD, Seagate 2TB

I'm gonna reuse the Storage and the Sound Card. Since some programs have to be installed on the boot drive (currently the Kingston) we have to bump up to a 512GB SSD.

What would you build with that kind of money given the requirements? Just wanna have some input since the last build I did was 2016 and the market has changed drastically.

Some nice to haves:

  • Case shouldn't be to chunky and maybe white
  • No wireless stuff required

Cheers!

Motherboard WiFi is close to standard these days.

No point in getting a new SATA SSD.

A €3,000 computer needs to be a little chunky unfortunately. I can't find any reasonably priced white motherboards that are ideal for a 7900X, so I settled on a blackout theme. No liquid cooler ensures a lifespan well beyond 6 years with proper care. I would advise converting to strictly SSDs in the near future.

Here you have 7950X + best air cooler + One of the best value X670E mobos + 4090 + a PSU that will be able to handle all of that power + white case ... This will slay on both fronts. The 7950X is slightly slower than the 7800X3D in gaming, but it's much faster in production workloads.

Thin compression. Glad that all the productivity here scales the 32 threads because in the case that it isn't like in Adobe, the 13700 would come out cheaper and faster.

Usually i don't like pairing 7950X with B650 mobos. The whole point of that CPU is that it's a productivity monsters and allows for some heavy PCIe usage. You are basically cutting it half with a B650 mobo

Appreciate all the input so far! I think a 13900K or 7950X would be overkill, since most of the rendering is GPU bound. At least that's my understanding. So a 7900x or even a 7700x + a RTX 4080/4090 would be enough? Didn't know there was a 48GB RAM kit, seems like a sweet spot. Are the MSI GPUs in particular good, cause I see them in every recommendation?

Technically everything above the minimum required is overkill, if you have all the time in the world. People who pay top money for workstations do it, because those stations earn them money. The less time you spend rendering or crunching or encoding, the more work you can get done in a certain amount of time, the more money you can get at the end of the month or you can have more free time to enjoy other things. The difference between 7700X+4080 to 7950X+4090 in productivity is as big as comparing a tug boat to an aircraft carrier. The 7700X is more than 2 times slower in productivity tasks than the 7950X. In Blender especially a single render can take up to 3 times longer on the 7700X compared to the 7950X.

And the 4080 vs 4090 - it's not even in the same ball park. It's like they are 2 entirely different generations of GPUs, not same generation, different class.
