Don't have permission to access drive on another PC in network...

Completely reset my Plex machine and trying to give the drive access to my main machine so I can just place the Plex box in another room, no monitor/keyboiard/mouse.  I had it working flawlessly before but now I get denied permission. As in "You do not have permission to access drive Plex" message.

 

2 PC's on the same wifi, main one WIn 11, Plex is Win 10.  Just trying to map a network drive.  I have passwords off, file share on, etc.

 

I have enabled Sharing, as per usual, including Everyone having full access.  Disabled IPv6 as well, not sure why tho.  Still no joy...

 

Any idea what I am doing wrong?  Do I need to activate Windows to be able to file share?  Couldn't find a definitive on the web.

I've had various problems with shares in later versions of Windows in past. My memory is a bit faded but I think what worked for me was creating a user with password set the same as the other system. Then add that to the permissions list.

I am using the same email and password on both machines.  Would there be an issue with Network Credentials, whatever that is?

 

I am boggled by how hard it is to get two machines on the same network to see each other.

 

I'll try making another user id and logging into both with it.

Did you add the user to the share?

 

It's all probably done in the name of security. I don't get why stuff doesn't work now either when it use to be fine probably as late as the earlier versions of Windows 7. My only workaround is to do as much has possible outside of Windows.

I added a user to the PC and my email to the Advanced Sharing for the drive.  No dice.

 

I am not sure the PC's can even see each other, as when I go to devices.... I don't see either.  I see the printers, ROku TV's, etc.  But Josh can't see Plex, and Plex can't see Josh.

 

Also, I have like multiple passwoprds for each PC.  One to log in, another for Microsoft account, another for Network Credentials.  

 

Honestly, I am confused as shit right now.  a week ago it was easy peasy, not I can't keep straight what account is supposed to be trying to connect to what account!

 

I had thoiught the exact same user was logging into both machines (ME!).  But I'm getting frustrated as hell.

Check the networking on both are set to "private network" as I think by default shares wont be exposed over public ones. I have no idea what the process is because it is so unintuitive and I have to Google it every time I want to change it.

I was finally able to connect, I had to redo (again) the new users and logins for both PCs.

 

Even tho I put the no need for a password, I still have to every time to want to connect to the drive.  

 

Oh well, I'll take the half-win.
