Hi. Hope u guys are having a good time. I have a rx580 which I used with a weak psu. After several months I decided to plug the 8 pin connector to a different psu to obtain enough wattage. After which I noticed low frequency, about 700 to 900 mHz. And after several seconds fans go full speed and screen goes black. After that Nothing works till I restart my computer. In general tasks and light gaming there is no problem. By the way I didn't notice any smoke or sounds.

Any help would be appreciated.

Did you use the old 8pin cable with the new PSU? Was it a different brand / model?

Did you replace your PSU or did you plug a second PSU in addition to the first one ?

Also, an rx580 does not draw that much power. I was running one on a 350W PSU back to the old days.

I plugged another one in addition to first.

One psu for motherborad and drives and cpu, the other for gpu 8pin.

About 140 w . My first psu was 330w and under load the fan speed would decrease because power wasn't enough to feed both chip and fans . My second one is 280wa old system power supply.

I was wondering if it is power circuit of gpu , because second psu(pluggen to the gpu) was on, after the pc was shot down

Depending on how you plugged that second PSU, you may have fried something.

When you use two PSUs in tandem, you need to make sure the grounds are connected together (the black wires on the 24 pins connector). If the grounds are not connected together, the voltage of the molex connectors may be "floating" and you may have more or less than the +12V and +5V that you were expecting. There are y-adapters for power PSUs that allow you to connect the grounds and the power up wire together and safely use two power supplies in the same computer. But given that your system doesn't require anything fancy, I suggest you buy a 500W power supply. You can find many at low cost (new) and you can always purchase one for dirt cheap at any electronics recycler.

Good luck !

Thank you

I'm about to get one.

But should I replace gpu afterwards?

Or it's reparable

That kind of repair may be difficult and also not worth the price on an old GPU.

But your GPU is not necessarily broken. Floating voltage may be higher or lower than expected. If it was lower, I suspect that your GPU simply malfunctioned and will return to normal if plugged correctly. Just remove the second PSU and see if the GPU works again.
