PC randomly crashes

Go to solution Solved by lr5t,

I figgured it out,

The SSD is broken, I'm currently using an old, 500gb HDD, with linux (latest Ubuntu), it's no longer crashing.

I removed the SSD and HDD from my cumputer and only connected the essentiels,

Then I booted linux via CD and let it run without crashing.

Then I conected only the SSD and installed linux on it, that one crashed, multiple times.

After that I connected my old HDD, installed Linux and that one isn't crashing.

So that means it is the SSD thats causing the problems.

I'm contacting the supplier/manufacturer now to check the warrenty, and if thats valid, I'm sending it in for repair.

If not, I'm buying a new SSD.

Thank you all for the help! I really appriecate it!

hello members of LLT,

since somewhere tonight, my pc keeps crashing after about 5-10 minutes.

It will first throw everything in "non responsive" and after that, just a black screen (sometimes a reboot)

these are my specs:

OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit (6.1, Build 7601)

BIOS version: 04.06.05

CPU: AMD FX-8350 eight-core
GPU1: AMD XFX Radeon HD7950 DD
GPU2: AMD 7850
motherboard: ASRock 970 Extreme 3 R2.0
memory: Corsair 8GB DDR3
CPU cooling: Antec Kühler H2O 620
sounds card: Asus Xonar DG
SSD:  Kingston SSDNow V300 SC300S37A/ 120GB

HDD: Seagate Barracuda 7200.14, 2TB

1 time, when it crashed, I briefly saw an error message and it said something about asrock, so I assume its my motherboard.
But i have not been able to reproduce the error message, although the same crashing keeps happening.

Is my motherboard broken or can this be fixed with a simple solution?

This happened to me. An easy thing to do is to check your cables. My 24pin cable was lose all I did was push it in until the click and now my pc works fine. check the cable that connects your PSU to the outlet as well. Tell us with any new info

Might want to use a program to check your HDD S.M.A.R.T. readings and make sure it isn't failing as well. I usually use Speedfan, here is the dl link from the speedfan site

http://www.almico.com/speedfan449.exe

I can think of 3 or more times when a computer I worked on that had the non responsive stuff going on was the hard drive not wanting to spin up or just failing. Not sure if a SSD can fail in a way that would cause that but you can check both of them with Speedfan.  Is windows taking any longer to boot than normal?

I pushed down on my 24-pin, all my SATA connectors (both ways), I will post an update below this.

I will try that in a moment, and about the startup speed;

it is slower than when I first installed my SSD, but it is very fast in comparison with a HDD, its just the "windows rot" I guess.

UPDATES:

I've removed my 7850, both to make more room to work with and, to eliminated problems on the go.

and I've installed some windows updates (all available except for the language packs)

so far so good. I will keep you guys updated!

Check not only the connections of the cables, but the conditions of the cables as well. Are see if there are any tears in the sleeves or wires them selves.

I ran the extended test on my SSD and it returned no errors.

The cables are looking in good condition.

UPDATES:

No crashes for about an hour! I think its fixed :D, I tomorrow I will install my 7580 again, and see if things continue to run smoothly. if not, I will reply here again.

Thanks for all the great help, if not for you guys I'd probably has bought a new SSD and/or new mobo.

Did you check your seagate as well? Just because it isn't your OS drive doesn't mean it is not causing the crashes. If that's not it you could try whocrashed

http://www.resplendence.com/download/whocrashedSetup.exe
and see if your computer has managed to make any dumps on one of those crashes. If it has whocrashed may be able to tell you what is causing it.

the seagate returned no errors on the short test, the extended test is running as I type this,

Whocrashed told me this:

Crash dump directory: C:\Windows\MinidumpCrash dumps are enabled on your computer. No valid crash dumps have been found on your computer

also the specified folder is empty.

two of my systems are both now randomly shutting off, nothing hardware related that i can see as both systems haven't been touched , my feeling is a recent windows update has caused some issue

one pc will shut off within minutes of booting up , noticed one thing tho , if booting into main admin account it will shutoff but  if i log onto my guest account that my nieces and nephew use 1st then switching over to my main admin ac it stays up and running

I'll give it a try, thanks. nope, does not work for me, I am now testing if this guest account is also crashing.

UPDATE:

Whenever my pc crashes and reboots, there is no SSD in the boot list.

UPDATE2:

I have put the SSD in a different SATA port, lets see if that will help any.
