Hey all, i have been playing BF4 on medium video quality and been getting about 60fps average

but recently my FPS would be going from 70 to 45. Then in some cases from 45 to 15 then slowly back up to 45 then back to 60.

I have a GTX 550ti from ASUS and 6gb ram

any will be greatly appreciated

Is it a pre-built? Because only Dell or another such insidious organization would use 6 GB of RAM. If so, it's probably because your GPU isn't properly ventilated, and is melting. A lot of pre-built systems (Especially "casual ones" like Dell, Toshiba, Vizio, etc.) have horrible ventilation.

Even if it isn't pre-built, your video card may have come to the end of it's life, especially if you haven't treated it well (you monster). The best you can do if you can't build a new PC is to make sure all the cooling is working properly, and sing it quietly to it's final rest.

Well, i bought the card not that long ago ( i was very new to PC gaming and wanted a budget PC to give it a try) so im thinking that my card is about 2 years old?

Also my CPU, Intel i3-2100, i would like to clarify, this is a desktop PC that i had my local PC shop make for me. Its running windows 7 64 bit.

Cooling wise, in summer my pc would just turn off, i concluded that this was a cooling problem so i popped off the side panel and propped 3 server fans next to it, seemed to do the trick. But as it is now winter i have taken them away as they are very loud. My case only has 2 fans, so cooling might be it.

I was about to but an EVGA gtx 770 as i decided i loved my position as a member of the PC master race and it was time to experience games in their full glory, but then i saw some laptops with gtx800 cards and didnt want to buy the 770 for it to be quickly superseded by an 800 series cards, but its been a while, when will the 800s come to desktop?

also thanks to everyone, as i am new to PCs and can use any help i can get :D

~A large upgrade is on the horizon, im thinking a Corsair RM 850, Corsair 750D or NZXT H440, EVGA 770 (or maybe even a 780/780 ti??) (provided 800 series is far away), Buying some propper ram (8gb) but im stuck on CPU and motherboard upgrade.

Then yup, it's the cooling, your card is dying, sorry.

Don't wait for 800 series. They'll be a while, and they won't be all that much better. Go for the 770, and if you can pay a little more, either a 780 or 290, but not a 780 ti, 780 ti's are super expensive and not really worth the money performance-wise. The only reason you should buy a 780 ti is because you have so much money that price/performance doesn't matter at all to you.

uh, using EVGAS software i managed to get some card temps. idle is around 40-49c and in gmod, when i was playing i checked and it said 61c

this seems hot, how hot should it be?

Idle seems a bit high, but 61 isnt bad under load, but I dont think gmod will stress your card much.

Yeah, gmod seems to run easily, but im curious to see how hot it is playing bf4....

BTW I called GPU services and they're coming to rescue your abused GPU.
