Hello guys, i have a problem with my pc. Here is the specs:

1660 super

r5 3600

16gb 3200mhz

570 motherboard

the problem is whenever i play a game, the fps is low but also the gpu usage. I thought it could be a cpu bottleneck so i oc my cpu from 3600 to 4100mhz, but it didnt seem to help. I also overclocked my gpu and it helped but only for 2-3 fps.
the strange thing is that if i run low graphics then the fps is like 40, but if increase the graphics then the fps turns a little up to 50-60. Also the gpu usage will never be at a 100% unless i max the graphics setting but then ill have like 20fps. I also have a lot of fps drops.

anyone knows what i should do? I was thinking about upgrading my ram first and then my gpu because im gonna build a pc for my little brother

Do you have 1x16 or 2x8GB?

Latest motherboard BIOS?

Latest AMD chipset drivers?

Running 1080p or lower?

Latest Nvidia GPU driver?

What are you using to monitor GPU load, Msi afterburner?

Ok, find your motherboard on the manufacturer's website and flash the latest bios.

Which version you have you can see in cpu-z.

Download the chipset drivers from AMD.

The chipset is the most important part of the motherboard.

Retest after.

i installed the newest chipset driver, but not the bios because the motherboard i have is having issues with installing bios. a lot of people have problems with updating bios so i didnt want to make it worse.

I am still having the same problem, low gpu usage on low settings with like 40fps. gpu usage is around 50% and cpu usage around 40%. i really think it is my cpu bottlenecking but i dont know for sure and dont want to buy a new cpu if its not the problem

A Ryzen 5 3600 cannot bottleneck a 1660 Super. I would understand if you said you had a 2070 Super.

Which motherboard do you have? And where's the source of "a lot of people have problems with updating Bios"?

Which bios version are you on?

alright.

i have an asus tuf gaming motherboard and x570 plus (wifi). its supposed to be compatible with this "ez updater" which allows you to update bios from windows, but it says i dont have the right bios which i do! i looked this up and it is a common problem with these motherboards. i dont really know how to download bios from a usb driver and dont want to f it up. but is a recent bios version really necessary, because i dont see why. i have some 2020 bios version dont know how to check it. on google people say its better not to touch bios version... i dont know what to do, please help:(

I also have an Asus board, I can help you with the update proces.

Ez update works but sometimes it needs "the lowest bios supported" and if yours is older than that then you need to do a manual update.

Your Bios is full of issues. Bioses fix stuff and improve compatibility and performance.

You need to find your Bios version using CPU-Z, find your board on Asus website, download the latest bios, unpack it on one of your drives, enter the Bios, and use the Bios update tool in the Bios to update. It takes maybe 5 minutes overall.

alright, will try this tomorrow. could it also be a ram bottleneck? i have 16gb 3200mhz on dual channel. when i play games on high settings it will use up to 15gb of my ram in total, so the usage is like 90%. i already ordered new ram because im building a pc for my brother.(3600mhz 2x16gb)

Having more RAM will help in some games. But it's a problem with the outdated Bios not having many of the issues fixed.

This may be overly simple, but did you check whether all your ram is showing on your system (and have xmp enabled for full speed)?

And that all the cores show up when you check for their temp?

yes i was running xmp, i just installed 2x16gb 3600mhz, but did not test the results yet. i also stopped the manual overclock and enabled pbo. system gets hotter now but cpu is running better (i think)

i am 100% sure now that i have a cpu bottleneck. because if i am in the city in gta my cpu usage goes up and gpu usage goes down. outside of the city i get 100%(or near) gpu usage and low cpu usage. the new ram helped but its not enough, so im thinking about buying a 5600x or 5700x but im not sure yet, because i also want to upgrade to a 6750xt
