Good afternoon all,

I am changing my work computer and thinking of going with a laptop replacement.

My current work PC specs are:

R5 2600X

32GB ram

RX570

Samsung 970 EVO Plus 1TB M.2

My MD has said get something at least the same performance if not much higher. Budget isn't a massive issue tbh.

It needs to ideally have the following:

  • Ability to run up to 3 x 4k screens
  • RJ45 port
  • MUX switch
  • Good keyboard for typing.
  • Good thermals

I'm looking at Lenovo Legion models currently as they seem to use liquid metal for cooling.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

TIA

Ryzen 9 7900X

Asrock X670E PG Lightning

32GB G.Skill 6000mhz DDR5

1TB Samsung 990 Pro

Rdna 2 iGPU

I'ma tell you flat out:  This is the *dumbest* reason to consider a device.

The TIM doesn't amount to much in the grand scheme of things.  And LM has enough drawbacks, that I would never use it.  (Remember:  LTT has gotten dead products because LM was on the mobo and killed shit.)

Anyways, you're not going to get all your asks on a laptop, simply because, you *cannot* get good thermals on a laptop.  Laptops will hit 100c and then thermal throttle to maintain temps around there.  There just isn't enough space to keep them cooler in an actual laptop formfactor.

Otherwise:

You'll need a thunderbolt equipped latop, as well as a dock, as I don't think any laptops include 3 external monitor connections.

I understand what you're saying. But, my friend has a Legion laptop and his never thermal throttles even when on heavy work loads it only hits 82-85 max.

on my own personal experience with my legion 5 15ach6h, yes the thermal are great and from looking at many review legion series are in general solid, but dont limit your option to just legion look at other from asus or msi.

in my opinion any new laptop with 13th gen intel or amd 7040 cpu and rtx 4000 is more powerful than the current work pc. so just look for something that fit the needs and budget. if you are looking for some recommendation maybe you can start from looking at this laptop. seems to fit all the needs.

If portability isn't your priority, I will recommend build a new desktop PC. For laptop, you can only choose between noise level and performance, but with PC you get both, powerful and quiet at same time.

Personal spec:

MB: ROG SRTIX Z690-A D5 WIFI

CPU: Intel i7 - 13700K

CPU Cooler: Thermalright Frozen Notte 360 White AIO with 3 extra fans

GPU: Powercolor Hellhound 7900XTX

RAM: DDR5 16G * 2@6800Mhz

PSU: Seasonic Focus GX-1000 Gold

Chassis: Lian Li O11 Dynamic White

Storage:

Intel Optane 900P 280GB * 1(OS)

Samsung 970 evo plus 2TB * 1

Samsung 860 evo 2TB * 1

Samsung pm981a 900GB * 2

HDD: WD Purple 4TB * 1

Monitors:

27'' KTC m27p6 4K160Hz/1080P320Hz Dual-mode QD-MiniLed (Main)

27'' KTC m27p2 4K144Hz MiniLed (Seconday)
