You need to check Event Viewer to know more information about. If it were my guess the recovery image was deleted.

You'll need to clean install Windows manually. To do this:

  1. Backup on a different system or drive all your important files on that system. Take your time to make sure you include everything. Data lost won't be irrecoverable, especially on an SSD drive.
  2. Get a USB Flash drive (on USB 3.0 or faster, is what I recommend). The drive will be formatted, ensure that no data that you care about is on it. It won't be recoverable.
  3. Download Microsoft's Media Creation Tools for Windows 10 found here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/software-download/windows10
If your system is Windows 11 ready, then consider Windows 11 which you can upgrade for free: https://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/software-download/windows11
On either link, click on the second download blue button under "Create Windows 10/11 Installation Media"
  4. Insert your USB flash drive and run the Media Creation Tool. Follow the wizard.
  5. Once done, restart your system, and boot from the USB Flash drive to start the Windows install process.
  6. At a certain stage you'll be asked for a product key. If you pick "I don't have one" as you are on a laptop, Windows Activation will look for your product key on your UEFI and resume the process. If you are on a desktop, it will look under your Microsoft Linked Account that you use on the first account or try and ID the system with hardware specs and serial number that it can pull off (if missing drivers or hardware was upgraded this might fail until hardware is returned back to its old configuration, or drivers are installed (in the case of missing drivers).

At this stage you are done, following the first setup experience and you are good to go. Once the desktop:

  • Check for Windows Update.
  • Install all missing drivers (see Device Manager for any yellow "!" icons next to device names or "Unknown" is listed)
  • Install the latest GPU drivers.
  • If you are on a laptop, you'll need to install your laptop driver software to get some functionality working, like special keys or better power management. If you are installing Windows 11, and your system is compatible with Windows 10, then Windows 10 drivers will work under Windows 11 (nothing was changed in this regard)
  • Open the Store, and go to Library > Get Update, to update all apps that comes with Windows.
  • Once done, restart your system, and you are ready to restore your data
  • Once done, you can now install your programs/games.

When you'll go through the Windows Setup process, it will ask you which drive/partition you want to install Windows.
From there, assuming your system has 1 drive only, you can select each partition listed and delete them.

It will look something like this:
4.png?itok=9VanAQVt

Depending on your system configuration the number of partitions will differ. Don't worry about this. The above is an image from the interwebs.. and looks like it from a VM.

"Drive 0" is your main drive.
Drive letters don't show, because drive letters (C:\, for example) is a Windows concept. It's not an actual PC concept.

Typically, you should have, for Windows OS, 3 partitions, where 2 of them are "hidden" (hence why you never saw them under Windows)

  • Boot loader of Windows
  • Recovery partition (tools that Windows Recovery mode uses, to help troubleshoot a problem outside of Windows)
  • Rest of drive. The largest, the "main partition", if you will. The one you see as C:\ under Windows=, where you put all your data.
