Installing errors with all the os

Hi!!! I have a very big problem, every time.u try to install an os in an PC I just put in a 9700k and update from my old 8100 and if it's windows it gives varios.kinds of bsod like machine check exceptions or whea uncorrectable error, and in Linux gives me various errors( the picture I sexed says Wich errors) while trying to install mint, if anybody knows if that's because the processor is dead or if it is something else, I will really appreciate de help

SSD crucial b500 240gb

Couple hardrives for data

Did you update the BIOS of your motherboard to the latest version before you upgraded to the 9700K?

Yes I did, and when I put back the 8100 in the motherboard everything works, also getting this in mint

Ooft, yeh, if Linux doesn't install then its usually something pretty serious.

then probably the CPU is faulty, because every time I try to run memtest 86 on smp just restarts

Dude, I think its safe to say the CPU is either completely goosed or gimped, either way, I would see if you can get a refund although given its a 9th gen intel, I'm assuming you bought 2nd, 3rd, 4th hand....

 

All is not lost though. Assuming the CPU is functioning enough to get you into a BIOS screen, does the Bios allow you to disable cores (per core)??

 

Its a bit tedious and you'll almost certainly end up with a gimped system but you might find its just one core that's dodgy.

 

Turn off core 1 - install Linux - does it work [Yes / No] > If Yes, Yipee, If No turn off another.... rinse and repeat

Yes my processor let me get to the bios screen it gets messy on when trying to install windows or Linux, but I will try to do the core disabling to see if that works out

Nice one.

 

If you can disable cores then it will get tedious, especially if more than 1 core is dodgy but if you have the patience then you might at least get into an OS knowing what the problem is.

Trying to disable cores didn't work because the motherboard only let me decide how many cores are active but not Wich cores are going to be so I can't disable especific cores , I'm pretty much f%#d?
