4070ti and adding 250USD on top to go 4080 ? 

I agree with @filpo it is absolute waste of money.

stick with what you have if you cannot afford a 4090 as all the 40 series under the flagship are junk in comparison. 4090 is expensive but stands head and shoulders above the rest whilst the lower tier 40 series are even more expensive when you look how much performance is lost stepping down.

I bought a 4070ti yesterday, my plan is to build a new pc (using an 1080 laptop) and wait for the 50 series to come out, the current 4070ti is temporary (when 50 series is out, i will move this card to my laptop as external gpu) ...So I wonder if its worth to add some money (250usd, the shop worker tell me that i can still return and topup money to 4080 within a day,which is a few more hours left) to 4080? I normally play VR games and other AAA games like GTAV...

Thats still years away. Id just go for 4080 instead then, if you bought it for the current market price of 800$ that wouldve be 1050$ which is lower than MSRP.
