Need help with first build please

Budget (including currency): max. 1.800€

Country: Germany

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Games like Elden Ring, Hogwarts Legacy, The Witcher 3 etc. in 1440/4k and maybe streaming

Build: https://de.pcpartpicker.com/list/8rVQjZ

Question: I originally wanted to go with AMD Ryzen 5 7600X and GIGABYTE B650 GAMING X AX ATX but I felt like that wouldn't work well enough for the 7900 xt or gaming and streaming. Would be nice if someone could tell me if those also work for what I want to do. It would would safe me around 200€.

Someone on reddit also suggested changing to 6000 cl30 for the ram. Should I listen to them?

(already ordered the storage, cooler and case because I don't think those will change)

Thanks for the help 🙂

Do you also have a PSU ( Power Supply ) or did you forget that?
The 7600/7600x actually keep up with the 7700x in gaming perfomance and is a great choice.
Here are 2 pictures from Hardware Unboxed 10 game average benchmark at 1080p and 1440p with a RTX 4090, you can clearly see the 7600 and 7600x keep up pretty darn well for the price. Seeings the 7600 this close to a 13900k thats over twice the price is insane.

First of all: AM5 processors' max ram speed is 6000Mhz, going past that causes system instability and unless you want to tinker with the voltage and timing settings, I'd suggest going with a 6000Mhz (EXPO certified, please) kit.

Other suggestion: this varies from user to user, but most Asus mobo users (me included) have reported issues with posting and ram compatibility.

This is because their BIOSes right now break some of the compatible rams and you'll need to change some things in the bios to get your system to boot reliably.

I'll drop in my bios settings that I used to stop my system from not posting and the solid DRAM light on the mobo:

  • EXPO I On
  • FLCK Frequency +2000Mhz
  • Memory Context Restore (in Memory Timings section) to True
  • Memory Context Restore (in AMD CBS section) to true
  • Set the PCIE slot gen from Auto to Gen 4

Obviously it's not guaranteed you'll have these problems but I'm dropping my settings just in case.

My current PC has a 750W one. I thought that would be enough. It's probably around 8 years old tho. Got the whole PC from my brother cause he didnt need it anymore.

Ok nice. I thought the 2 extra cores would make a bigger difference. I'm gonna go for the 7600 then. Thanks 🙂

Regarding the mobo should I keep the Asus ROG STRIX B650E-F GAMING WIFI ATX or is the GIGABYTE B650 GAMING X AX ATX enough?

A 750w will be enough for a 7600/7600x and a 7900XT.  It IS getting up there in age and I would replace it as soon rather soon. It should work for a little while longer but you never know.

I personaly use the ASUS TUF B650 PLUS WIFI with my 7700x and I have used it in 20 other AM5 builds so far without any issues, with 7600-7700 and 7900x CPU's.  I run Kingston Fury Beast 5600/6000mhz CL36 RAM that is EXPO certified ( EXPO for AMD, XMP for Intel ) The ASUS TUF is also nicely priced.

Are those good for my build then? And is that AMD EXPO the EXPO certified part you mean?

First of all: EXPO Certified means a RAM kit that is optimized to run with AMD processors and be more stable.

By the way yes, this kit looks and performs well, i have the exact same one in my rig and runs wonders.

Yes, exactly! These will work great with your AM5 CPU / Motherboard 🙂

If youre going for the 7000 series AMD card, youre pretty much stuck with x264 until Twitch gets off its laurels and add AV1 support in which case yeah, go for 7700X or even 7900X if you are using multiple browser based streaming assistant like StreamElements. In this case, id go for Intel and run Quick Sync Video for h264, and run Radeon VCN for AV1. Also, you forgot your PSU.

With this you can go down to 13600K and be just fine really, but you can afford locked 13700 here.

Or you can go for NVENC.

You can overbudget this to get 4080, or you can spend the 200 euros on 4070Ti. I personally dont bother.
