What is GPU mining

Pretty much topic says it all. What the hell is it? It's first forum where i have heard this word sitting near GPUs. And google thinks I'm mining gold

When you take GPUs and apply blunt force trauma against rock to chip away at it(most effectively done in quarries). The old DCUII triple slot designs are by far the best at this due to the large heatsink designs.

I always thought there were magic mines in various parts of China where people dug different GPUs out of the ground. I've learned something today.

No you silly goose Mining GPUs are made to mine stuff like bitcoins and litecoins from the ground. ASIC miners that are made out of super hard material are starting to be made though that are making them obsolete.

 

(Okay but seriously OP GPUs can be used to mine cryptocurrencies through special software that makes them do complicated math to "mine" the currencies. There people much more knowledgeable on it then me in the mining and folding section. Basicly if you run the software it will run your GPU at max load and you will get some currency)
