AMD Ryzen R5 5600 vs Intel Core i5-12400F (+ Radeon RX 6600)

I'm finally building a PC for my sibling and I can't decide between these 2 processors to pair with the Radeon RX 6600. Currently, they play simulation games like Sims 4 and Crusader Kings III with many mods but may play some triple-A titles in the future at 1080p. They also do some work with the following applications (in order of frequency):
1. Adobe Illustrator
2. Adobe Lightroom
3. Adobe Photoshop
4. Adobe After Effects
5. Adobe Premier Pro

Currently, I'm deciding between these 2 configurations:
1. R5 5600 (609 MYR ~130 USD) + Asus TUF B550M-PLUS WIFI II (615 MYR ~131 USD) = 1224 MYR ~261 USD
2. i5-12400F (642 MYR ~137 USD) + Gigabyte B760M DS3H AX (619 MYR ~132 USD) = 1261 MYR ~269 USD

Here's the list of parts for the build with the R5 5600. Switching to the i5-12400F and B760M motherboard adds 37 MYR (~ 8 USD) more:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600 3.5 GHz 6-Core Processor (609 MYR ~130 USD)
CPU Cooler: ID-COOLING SE-214-XT 68.2 CFM CPU Cooler (74 MYR ~16 USD)
Motherboard: Asus TUF GAMING B550M-PLUS WIFI II Micro ATX AM4 Motherboard (615 MYR ~131 USD)
Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 CL16 Memory (185 MYR ~40 USD)
Storage: Silicon Power A60 1 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 3.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive (Already Purchased)
Video Card: Asus DUAL Radeon RX 6600 8 GB Video Card (999 MYR ~214 USD)
Case: 1st Player T3 Gaming Case (155 MYR ~33 USD)
PSU: 1st Player SteamPunk SP-650SP (299 MYR ~64 USD)

Total Unpurchased: 2936 MYR (~627 USD)

My sibling doesn't plan on any upgrades at all for at least 5+ years after building this PC so it needs to be pretty solid. Based on reviews and comparisons it seems like the i5-12400F has the edge in gaming but the R5 5600 is a little better in productivity applications. I've also been considering the Intel Core i3-12100F as it seems to be really great for gaming but I'm worried that it might not be good enough for the Adobe applications. Additionally, Wi-Fi is a must.

If upgrades were a thing, the i5 would be much better, since on AM4 he could go to a 5700X, 5800X3D, and 5900X but on Intel, he could do the new generation (12th, 13th, and potentially the refresh of the 13th named 14th).

In any case, I would go with a higher-quality power supply.

Go Intel, intel is faster in this case, but if your sibling not going to game a lot go AMD. It should be more than able to Paradox games and the 6600 is overall a very decent card.

Creative cloud will run fine too.

Intel's baseclock is low here, so if you have adequate cooling you should be able to achieve similar performance to AMD, and regardless, the performance hit is very negligible, you should consider either.

Upgrades aren't really the plan for this build for a really long time. Also, isn't the only upgrade path to 13th gen since 14th gen has been confirmed to be on the new LGA 1851 socket?

Isn't the Steampunk Gold series from 1st Player in the B Tier based on the Cultists Network PSU Tier List?

Does the i5-12400F run hotter than the R5 5600?

The maximum turbo power for the 12400 is 117 W.

And the TDP of both of them is 65Ws.

My friend has an overclocked 5600 which runs under 75C under stress with the AMD Wraith cooler.

Oh yeah, you should go AMD then. Intel is rubbish, I forgot it does not have an unlocked multiplier.

Overclock some cores, or all of them, just a tad bit up and that should crush intel, as it was a 10% (at most) difference to begin with.

Should not be basing your purchases off a damn tierlist that has like 1% of available psu models tested

But 65$ for a 650w gold and its new is not that bad of a price atleast in terms of new psus, id still advocate for used though cause 40-50$ gets you an 850w gold or here in neighbouring indonesia 50$ gets you

this

So maybe your countries used market has some decent deals available

Btw 6700xt go for really cheap here in indo

Like 200$ for a card that annihilates the 6600 so maybe you can find some good deals on used 6700xt

You sure you cant get cheaper rams? Ram and ssd branding are completely irrelevant because all the components (dram, flash, controller, etc.) Are made by the same few manufacturers

Spoiler

I mean 32gb is only 62$ new

Or you can pair some bare pcb oem sticks like

Screenshot_20230630_131648.thumb.jpg.479536e81a06fbe092cc22014c09aab6.jpg

This

And simply overclock to 3800/4000, so essentially you get a faster kit for cheaper (this is 47$ for 2 sticks), although you will have to do some manual tuning and prefer samsung or hynix cause you can request specific ram ics by just requesting the code (ex hma82gu6djr8n for dual rank hynix djr), technically they can go well past 4600 but thats mostly a cezzane only thing (5500/5600g/5700g)

1st Player T3 Gaming Case

Seems like a decent case though id double check gpu length and cpu cooler height compatibility, i bought a cyclops case with 3 incl rgb fans (23$) and the thing is too slim to fit a 120mm tower but i think i went abit too cheap, usually 30-40$ is the sweetspot for good cheap cases thanks to local brands and china

Also consider a ryzen 5500 or maybe you can find a tray version of the 5600/5500, here in indonesia pricing for 5600 is also ~130$ (2jt) and ryzen 5500 pricing is at 100$ (1.5jt)

Seems like a decent choice of mobo but you may wanna consider looking at the used market for a cheaper b3/450 mobo and sticking a 10$ wifi card on it, in indonesia i can find alot of used b350 tomahawks for 60$ and b450 tomahawks for 80$

If you have any local eshop app that allows you to check used deals like tokopedia or bukalapak then you can just send a link to the website and i can check prices and parts for you

@Somerandomtechyboi First off, thank you for the detailed reply. Secondly, my sibling strictly wants brand new parts for this PC.

About the power supply, do I need that much power? I doubt I'll need something like an 850 W unit for this build. Also, how do you determine the quality of a power supply if according to you, that PSU tier list is not reliable?

Next, we're still sticking to the RX 6600 for now due to the fact that my sibling wants a brand new graphics card and it's very decent for the price.

I agree with you about the RAM. I have found Kingston Value 16 GB sticks for 150 MYR each.

My sibling really likes the 1st Player T3. Clearance for the graphics card is no problem but I'll still have to double check the clearance for the CPU cooler. If it's too tall, might just resort to using the stock cooler for the time being.

What would be your reasoning to consider the R5 5500? Doesn't it not have PCIe 4.0 support and has half the cache? Right now on Shopee (which is where I'm purchasing the parts) the R5 5500 is available for 429 MYR.

Was thinking of the same thing regarding the motherboard but the onboard Wi-Fi included with these motherboards have 2x2 which allows for connecting to a Wi-Fi AP and being a Hotspot at the same time. My sibling frequently uses this feature a lot. Finding a Wi-Fi card with similar functionality is not cheap and thus the total combined price is gonna add up to be about the same anyway.

A local shop app that I know of that has sells used stuff would be Carousell but I highly doubt my sibling would be onboard with the idea of buying used.

Welp already found a decent like new 6700xt for 1090 here and there seems to be a bunch more around 1000 but this one has protection

And judging by this review the 6600 is 40% slower at 1080p and 50% slower at 1440p looking at the 12 game averages

if your cousin wants a much shittier gaming experience than it is his call

Its not that the tierlist is stupid unreliable like yes there are flaws (speculating s12iii as e tier), just that ppl overly rely on the tierlist when there are many many good but unrated options, not to mention the tierlist focusing too much on specsheet jargon that does not have any irl impact

As for partlist

New

5700x 808 myr / 173$

This is possible because of savings from used parts, 5500 is at 428 myr / 92$

PA120SE 140 myr / 30$

Much better cooler for abit more $

1stplayer t3 155 myr / 33$

Hynix 16gb ddr4 133 myr / 28$ ea, if hma82gu6djr8n is not available (specific order) then theres also this listing at 150 myr / 32$ ea, samsung m378a2k43db2 will also work, just make sure you arent paying much more than 150 myr if you look for more alternate listings

Used

B450 tomahawk 300 myr / 64$

New equivalent = Strix B450-f gaming 400 myr / 86$

6700xt 1090 myr / 233$

New equivalent = 6600 xt 1200 myr / 257$

mwe 650w gold 185 myr / 40$ or if you intend on future gpu upgrades Zalman watttera 1000w 350 myr / 75$

New equivalent = Ps-700fk 170myr / 36$ or 750w udgm 300 myr / 64$
