Trying to identify Surface

Hey all,

I found a Surface, tablet only, in my work's ewaste bin. I've saved a TON of stuff from this bin, including a laptop, three desktops, a monitor, and various peripherals and PC components. Nothing I've recovered has been completely unsalvageable or junk.

I'm trying to identify the Surface's model so I can look into the right charger for it. It is grey, with ports for a keyboard on the bottom, one USB-A port, one port I think is a USB-B and another port that I assume is for the charger. However, I don't recognize it. It is wide, short, and looks shallow. It has a thick bezel, maybe about 1/4-1/2 an inch? Lastly, under the kickstand it says 'Windows 8 Pro' and '256GB', as well as a long string of numbers I believe to be the serial # given that it gave no results when googled.

If anyone could help me ID this, I'd greatly appreciate it!

This isn't it, the ports on the side facing the 'camera' aren't the same as the tablet I've got.

I did a serial number lookup on Microsoft and found that it's a Surface Pro 3, but I'm trying to find a model # if possible.

I don't think Surfaces have model numbers per se. Did you run the serial through here? That seems to give all the info.

Yeah, that's where I ran it through to find that it's a Surface 3 Pro. From what I can tell via the specs of Surface 3 Pros, it's got 256GB of storage, 8GB of ram, and a 4th Gen Intel CPU. Not sure if it's worth picking up a charger and keyboard for it at the moment, seeing as the hardware has definitely aged.

Should also be a model code behind the flip out foot at the back you can search up.

 

My guess is a pro 3

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Can't send a picture ATM, but it is indeed a Pro 3. I'm currently debating on whether or not it's worth picking up a charger for it, given the hardware's age.

If you want a windows tablet then a pro is amazing. If you don't want a windows tablet, they are not great. I had a pro 4 and it was so good I bought a surface laptop 2 once it broke. The pro 3 is definitely not as nice as the 4 but hey, it was free and a charger is like €20 probably so good value if it works alright 🙂

Yeah, I started thinking about it and I think it'd be great to turn it into something like a smart speaker, similar to the Echo Show or Nest Hub, and also use it to watch movies since the screen is better than that of my PC monitors LMAO.

The annoying thing is that I can't tell if it works until I get a charger. I suppose I can always return the charger if it doesn't work.
