Budget (including currency): $800(usd) this set of upgrades, will be getting a graphics card seperately later.

Country: USA

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Mainly upgrading for Starfield, play a lot of games, but also use the computer for work when I work from home. Not much high computing, just a ton of tabs open since I fluctuate back and forth between work and play. I generally prefer paying a little extra for guarantee/reliability cause I use the machine all the time.

This is my current machine:

https://pcpartpicker.com/user/Syzygy027/saved/#view=xJT323

I plan on reusing the case, psu, and peripherals. I'll be upgrading the graphics card later, it's fine for now. It was a quick replacement for the card that was originally in the machine that died.

This is what I have so far, but I plan on getting parts on Prime day so they might change a little, but any discount I get just means I'll be able to upgrade the gpu sooner.

Any comments are welcome, just making sure everything is good since it has been a while since I built a machine.

just a ton of tabs open

Intel Core i5 13600KF is about the same price and has slightly higher multi-core performance

Corsair MP600PRO NH PCIe 4.0 NVME M.2 SSD, 2 TB SSD has the same read speeds but outperforms the Samsung in write speeds.

The Corsair MP600PRO is usually cheaper as well.

If youre on Chromium based browsers remember to enable sleeping tabs feature.

Your PSU is getting old (around 10-15 years old is when id start to monitor them) and its not a remarkable unit on launch. If you want to get a good GPU youll need a quick PSU upgrade. Yes, 850 is fine even for 4090.

You can save 20$ if you go for DDR4-4000 CL18

The DDR4 will perform the same (on average) because it has better timings.

Hi, I was looking over your list and I made some changes. They really are for the better.

I switched the CPU to the 13600KF, it has more Cores and is faster then the 12700KF. Also the Motherboard. It is a Z690 but it is a top Board on sale right now and it has a Digital Numbered Debug LED Code Read-out if you ever have any problems. Just update the BIOS before you install the CPU.

I changed the RAM you has to better match the speeds that a Intel 1700 Socket should have and not feel really slow. I got you 32GB of DDR5 6000mhz CL32 for the best sweet spot for the RAM.

The M.2 Drive I put in is a bit faster than the Samsung and won't need a Firmware update like the Samsung will.

And finally I had to throw in a new PC Case. The one you had has really bad Airflow, next to none and it will most certainly cook your new PC. So I added a Case that has a Full Mesh Front and Top Panel as well as 3 RGB Fans and I added an extra Fan for the Rear of the Case.

I think this will be a really great PC.

You don't want a Z690 board for a DDR5 build do to the inferior memory support.

It's above his budget. I like ASUS ProArt B760-CREATOR D4, socket 1700

But for his budget it would be optimal if the motherboard is around 140$

DDR4-4000 CL18 performs the same on average and is 30$ cheaper.

Great feedback, thanks everyone. Definitely switching to the 13600KF as everyone suggested.

Ill look into Memory timings more, didn't do much of a deep dive yet, also thanks for the tip on the drive.

Most of your other suggestions are great, but where are you getting this information from that you think I need a new case? Maybe you just saw a pic of it and didn't understand it? I love this case, it's weird cause it rotates the motherboard giving it the best airflow I've ever seen... It has giant fans on the bottom that push air through the case and a fan on top that pulls air out, plus I put an extra on the back to help out the gpu. Plus since it's pulling everything from the bottom of the case it's really easy to keep clean.

I also hear the concerns about the PSU, but I'm not worried, it's not common for power supplies to fail, and I have not put stress on this one. I might get one before I upgrade my gpu though.

First please allow me to say that I am very sorry. I was only suggesting that a new Case be looked into. And you are right I was basing my opinion on just how it looked. After watching a review on YouTube I can now see how it works and why it is in such a different way. If you love it then by all means please keep it. For future knowledge though when it is finally time to retire it please keep in mind that PC parts are getting hotter over time and more Airflow is always preferred.

As for the PSU again it's just an opinion. In my 30 years in this business PSUs are the most common part to fail in a PC. If you have a working unit and it hasn't given you any problems then great. From the reviews I read on Newegg about this PSU is some of them begin to fail right after the 3 year warranty expires. It's not exactly up there on the Cultist list either, I think it's C or D Tier. No part is immune to failing. Just be careful on how long you use it for and I would advise not using a new GPU with it either.

I'm happy that you like my other ideas. If you need anymore help please let me know. I believe I can help more if need be, just send me a DM and I can explain more.
