Realistically, either would be great, though I'd probably err on the side of the 7700X, partially for the lower power consumption and partially for the better upgrade path.

The upgrade path is the main reason I went AM5 this time. I wanted a new system in November.  Knowing I can get maybe get a 9800X3D down the line and a new GPU to breathe new life into my system for 2-3 more years was the deciding factor.

Then I would suggest the 5800X3D, it should work in your motherboard if you update the BIOS.
I dont know if you want a new motherboard / platform change.

I do want a new motherboard would you say the swithbc form intel to and is very different?

I'd ignore the 5900X, it's a good CPU and everything but it's the lowest performance out of the three with no real upgrade path, so unless you get it for a bit cheaper than the other three (at least $50 less) it doesn't make a ton of sense.

EDIT: I didn't see you already had an AM4 motherboard. If you can keep the board the 5900X makes the most sense out of the three.

As for 13600K vs. 7700X, it's a bit more nuanced. I would have a hard-ish time recommending buying a Raptor Lake CPU at this time, Raptor Lake Refresh isn't that far away (should launch in September) and it should offer some pretty important upgrades (biggest being a new IMC), though if the price is right it still makes some sense. The 7700X is a bit slower, but it has no hybrid architecture and therefore should perform a bit more consistently if you don't want to use Windows 11, and the platform should in theory have a better upgrade path.

Realistically, either would be great, though I'd probably err on the side of the 7700X, partially for the lower power consumption and partially for the better upgrade path.

Since you're already on AM4, you should either go with a Ryzen 9 5900X or Ryzen 7 5800X3D.

The 5800X3D has comparable gaming performance to the Ryzen 7 7700X and Core i5 13600K. It will also be about 20% faster than your current CPU for all-core workloads.

The Ryzen 9 5900X is about 20-30% slower for gaming, but offers 30-40% more all-core performance than the 5800X3D - it comes short of the 13600K, but offers a bit more than the 7700X in that case.

Only go this route if you keep your current motherboard, which you should, since it will save you a lot of money, but if you're set on getting a new board, then ignore AM4 completely, and go with a complete platform upgrade. There's almost no point in getting a new AM4 board in 2023 unless you're doing a budget build.
