i recently bought a new PC and its getting hot when gaming which is okay but im at 83-84C at the average. and i duno to me that seems a bit much

my question is, 1 is that way high temperature for gaming or is that the temperature it is gonna be

and 2 if it is a bit much which cooler would you recommend looking into as a replacement

my setup is

AMD Ryzen 5 5600X 3.7 GHz 35MB

Gigabyte Geforce RTX 3070 8GB GAMING OC 2.0

be Quiet Pure Rock CPU air cooler

and 3 normal chassifans 2 in 1 out

thanks and have a wonderful day.

if this is the wrong category feel free to say so and i will move it.

It should be lower for a 5600x while gaming

This one Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE 66.17 CFM CPU Cooler (PA120 SE-D3) - PCPartPicker but remember to mount it the right way as it can greatly affect cooling

It's a bit too warm. First remount your cooler and check if you used enough thermal paste. Then you can try going into BIOS and changing the fan curve, maybe it's too conservative by default.

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.

Pure Rock is a decent cooler, you should'nt  have that bad temps unless your case is really choked

Check if it's properly mounted, repaste it, check fans speed as well

Thanks for the fine tips everyone

I would expect a little better out of the pure rock ( I assume this is the Pure rock 2 120MM, 4 heat pipe, tower cooler)

If this is the PureRock LP, then... That is about what I would expect as it is not much better than the wraith Stealth.

Questions for Further detail :

  1. What do the temps do under an all core load?  My r7 5700X runs substantially "hotter" when it runs something single core, about 10c hotter on a synthetic single core, Vs Synthetic all core workloads. It may peak up to 80C when booting into windows, or computing a new mesh in cad (single threaded use case) but All core Folding at home, or trans-coding video its about 70C.
  2. What Powers is it running? Is it in some sort of auto overclock mode on the motherboard? If you fully uncap pbo it and just let it run ryzen 5000 will basically boost until it hits 85-90c depending on the part.
  3. Is your fan curve set to anything like a silent curve that would slow the CPU fan down?
  4. And then the question of shame because we have all been there : did you peel the protective plastic off the coolers bottom and did you use enough thermal compound? I have definitely done both

only says pure rock 150W TDP on it so i dunno.

as an answer to 4 im quite certain i did the install correctly with taking of plastic etc. but i will check as i will try a remount and see if it helps.

thanks again all
