What about the 6750xt. It seems to sit in the middle of these two. Is the performance gain over the 6700xt worth the extra $$?

Found this one for $380. For only $30 more than the 6700XT its worth it.

I’m still fairly new to PC gaming and could use some advice. I built my first gaming PC a couple of months ago on a budget and built it with 1080p gaming in mind. I have a Ryzen 5 5600 and a RX 6600 XT. It was great for 1080p, but I had a 24” monitor. I wanted a larger monitor and got an amazing deal on a 32” 1440p monitor so I bought it. Now I’m finding that with AAA titles on 1440p higher settings, I’m seeing bottlenecking in the GPU.

I can’t really afford to upgrade both the CPU and GPU right now, but am thinking of just upgrading the GPU as the 5600 seems to be capable of driving a bigger GPU without issue. I’m looking to spend right around $400. What is the best GPU to match with the 5600 for high 1440p settings on AAA titles?

Best you could do with $400 is a brand new RX 6700 XT, but that would hardly be a an upgrade from 6600 XT.

So, I'd try to find used RX 6800 or RX 6800 XT depending on pricing, don't go Nvidia if you're on a budget.

Or if you're uncomfortable with used GPUs, then spend a bit more for RX 6800, it'd be great for 1440p.

Occassionaly visits the forum when I have nothing to do at work.

Is a 3070 worth it since it only has 8gb of VRAM? I’ve got 8gb now, but I’ve been seeing reports that 12gb is the minimum we should use for a lot of AAA titles.

I'd go for 12 or more.

I've been using computers since around 1978, started learning programming in 1980 on Apple IIs, started learning about hardware in 1990, ran a BBS from 1990-95, built my first Windows PC around 2000, taught myself malware removal starting in 2005 (also learned on Bleeping Computer), learned web dev starting in 2017, and I think I can fill a thimble with all that knowledge. 😉 I'm not an expert, which is why I keep investigating the answers that others give to try and improve my knowledge, so feel free to double-check the advice I give.

The problem is that for a 400$ budget you don't have last gen cards with more than 8Gb (correct me if i'm wrong) i've had a 3070ti and i was able to play & complete more than confortably these games (1440p max setting + RT "when available"):

Control.

Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition.

Resident Evil 2 Remake.

Shadow Of The Tomb Raider.
