If my 3200mhz cl22 of RAM downclocks to 2666mhz what CAS would it be CL20,19,18,17? (sodimm)

You should be able to check this in CPU-Z

+1. But if you just want theoretical rule of thumb, the closes FWL to a 3200CL22 is 2666C18. But of course, a fuck ton more things affect RAM transfer speed and latency.

i haven't bought it yet im trying to see whether to get a 2666mhz cl 18 or 3200mhz cl22. my cpu only supports up to 2666mhz. that's why i want to know what CAS 3200mhz at 22cl would go down too.

thanks for your reply, ive seen 2666mhz at cl19 on amazon so i thought maybe it would downclock to that instead. why does it go to cl18? instead of 19 or 20?

Again, that is purely theoretical using this formula. As i state before, a fuck ton more things affect RAM transfer speed and latency. CAS latency formula

Just ignore cl

The faster you can clock the better, cl is rubbish and barely affects performance, its the subtimings you wanna focus on. Also thered be no reason for 3200c22 to exist if it isnt faster than other jedec bins like 2666c19/18 or 2400c16, its literally the same situation as 3600c18 being faster than 3200c16
