Dear people of this forum,

I have been having some major issues recently with my BIOS time being incredibly slow. It averages around 57seconds for start up. I have recently upgraded my CPU from an I7-9700k to a ryzen 5 7800x3d. At first I thought my SSD was just defunct as I was having issues with incredibly slow load up times of programs aswell. It turns out that these two did not correlate. I am currently at a loss at what could be the issue for this slow loading time as I do not have any idea. I have also already enabled fast booting to no avail.

Therefore, I was wondering if you would happen to know some other common issues that might cause slow BIOS times. As I am currently at a loss.....

Its the DDR5 and Ryzen 7000 series, the boot time can be quite long on some systems.  It used to be upwards of 5-6 minutes but a few BIOS updates later its been a lot faster on most boards since release.  Just do a quick google search: DDR5 long boot time, and you will find many many threads regarding this, and some tweaks that can be done depending on the motherboard. As someone who grew up and started working with PC's in the 90s, I am used to the long boot times so I dont really notice it 😄  Mine takes around 25-30 seconds.

So, something to keep in mind, AMD based system have slower boot time than Intel.

That said, it isn't that long. 11-12sec is "normal" for AMD Ryzen 7000 series.

That said:

  • Ensure that you have the latest BIOS/UEFI installed. WARNING: Follow the motherboard instructions to the LETTER when doing a BIOS update. If it asks you to clear all settings before updating. Do so! Restart to apply, and then go on the next step in the instructions.
  • If you have an HDD on the system, you'll need to remove it.
  • In the UEFI/BIOS ensure that all unused devices/controllers are disabled.
  • Make sure CSM is disabled, UEFI mode enabled (if you have the option), memory is set to EXPO (Make that EXPO-II for ASUS boards).
  • Make sure "Restore Memory Context" is Enabled.

On your way, but not related:

  • Ensure that Secure Boot is enabled, and set to: Windows, if you have the option.
  • Ensure that TPM (or fTPM) is enabled.
  • Global C-State is enabled
