Gpu deshrouding?

This is not a very important question but i was feeling curious about it, how does deshrouding exactly work? 120mm fans are (mostly) wider than even GPU like the 3080Ti, wouldn't it mess up the radiator airflow? Speaking of the radiator wouldn't you need to get a new one so that you can put the fans on it?

I'm genuinely interested and might deshroud my 3080Ti one day so I'd appreciate if someone can provide a real quick guide on it

Usually the DIY fans are attached to the fin stacks either by using zip-tie or by making a sort of DIY adapter.

Most of the time it's just zip-ties

I never tried it myself but if there is a disrupted airflow through the fin stacks IMHO it should be minimal since the air that goes through the fans are mostly focused near the center.

You'll want hot air expelled out of the fin stacks to quickly go away somewhere else anyway. So the "leftover" part of the fans might help push those expelled air away.

There is also 92mm fans if that's an option one wants to go with.

Also kinda depends on the GPU's heatsink itself, some heatsinks are indeed wide enough to cover atleast most of the fan's surface.

The one in the link isn't deshrouding, he kept the shroud and sorta use it as a DIY adapter, but changed the fans

The idea is to :

1. Remove useless covering that only serve as more heat trapper.

and/or

2. Use a better and/or more silent fans . Bigger fans moves a lot more air than tiny ones at the same RPM, which therefore makes them more silent in general. Combine that with a silent brand / model of fans like Noctua or Silent Wings or something.

This one is an EVGA 3090 FTW3 with 3x92mm Noctua Industrial PPC
