Hi,

I have a SilverStone SST-TS43XX https://www.nikktech.com/main/articles/peripherals/hdd-enclosures/5559-silverstone-teratrend-4-bay-hdd-tower-enclosure-review
I believe it is dead, no LEDs light up. There are 4 4TB drives in it, configured in RAID 5 with the dip switches on the back.

What are my options for getting the data off? I don't know if any 4 bay eternal enclosure would work or if it has to be the same model.
I'd prefer to just get the data off without having to buy a new enclosure as I'd rather build my own NAS in the future.

Thanks!

Because the data is going to be written in a specific way by that controller you are going to need to either get something with the same controller or send it off to data recovery.

This was the main reason why I went with truenas too.

Generally, assuming the data isn't encrypted in some manner, it could be possible to buy a replacement one of those units (although you indicated you didn't want this since you want to upgrade to a NAS in the future, good choice tbh), plug it in and hope for the best. With that said, I would say a data recovery as others have suggested is more a sure-fire way of getting your data back - it's just also likely to be more expensive.

I feel it's worth mentioning if the data is important enough that you're sending it off to data recovery, you should really follow the 3-2-1 backup rule for your most important data - 3 copies on 2 types of storage with 1 of them offsite (like in the cloud for example).
