Should I update my BIOS?

@filpo No no, I mean it's on the official website only. It just pops up in red than the other driver updates.

I would do it then

On my manufacturer's website, the BIOS update importance level states "CRITICAL". I've never updated my UEFI firmware before, but I've always been very itchy seeing that update pop up. I am scared because of it's consequences if it fails. An unusable system. But how common is it for something to go wrong? I still remember those times when I was dual booting Windows for the first time because my main install had many problems, and I was scared also because I had only 1 PC that I could use. I was scared if something goes wrong in the installation process, and all my Windows installations would corrupt or something, and I would have no other PC to actually work on and find a fix for it. Thankfully for the 1% that I do trust Microsoft, nothing went wrong (and nothing should have), and today, I keep re-installing different OSes like its my daily work. This same goes for my firmware update. Nothing is supposed to go wrong right? So should I be scared? Power outage is not a problem, I have battery plugged in (laptop). But yes, I do not specifically need any update. My system is running fine. But still, I kind of do want those security, or possible any feature updates. Should I take the risk? Nothing should go wrong right?

PLEASE MARK COMMENTS AS SOLUTION IF SATISFIED!!

bigger number better, makes me look cooler.

I would do it. Its not that common for things to go wrong after a bios update. After all they're meant to fix problems not make them arise. What are your full specs? Since you might not need the bios update

@filpo My older laptop that I am going to update has an i5 4210u. It's a Dell. Again, I don't really need a BIOS update, but like, that pop up. It's so attracting me to click it and install it and see if there are any new improvements.

It’s a pop up? I wouldn’t click on it as it sounds suspicious. Try updating your bios from the official site and not clicking on the pop up (unless you know it’s safe).
