Budget (including currency): 1500 usd

Country: United States

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Light video/photo editing, a little CAD, and gaming

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

Here is what I have picked out so far. I know I want 32 gigs of ram and at least 2 terabytes of storage. This is my first time speccing a build, although I did build my friends pcs. I am a student and run a drone videography business on the side. I have peripherals except for a gaming monitor so I left budget for it. I mostly play more indie games with some AAA like 2042, and I prioritize resolution and color accuracy over refresh rate. Here's the link to the pcpartpicker. I also would like to stick with a decent Seasonic power supply because I want to upgrade in the future. Let me know anything I may have missed. I'm also open to suggestions for a CPU cooler cause I am not sold on the peerless assassin. Thanks! 🙂

For $200 more, this would:

  • Be significantly faster in every game
  • Don't buy a GPU with the intention of upgrading it.  Witha 6900xt, you'll probably never have to upgrade TBH.  You could almost do a 7900xt with this budget, but the 6900xt is still about 70% faster than the 6700xt in every game, which would let you play everything at ultra and a very high resolution, and be excellent in CAD.  If you don't care as much about the AAA games, then you could revert to the 6700xt, but honestlly some indie A3D games are actually pretty poorly optimized and want even more GPU power.
  • I know everyone is freaking out about ASUS boards right now, but this one is fine, it was just a thing with the 7800x3d and it's being resolved.  With a 7600 it'd never matter
  • The 7600 and 7600x are the same CPU, save your money there
  • Seasonic PSUs are good, but they carry a bit of a brand tax.  There are lots of other very high quality PSUs out there.
  • Cooler is black to match the rest of the build, and it's a slightly better cooler, but you could revert if you wanted.  The Phantom Spirit is similar to the Peerless Assis but it has 7 heat pipes instead of 6. IDK why you're not sold on it, it's a dual radiator cooler with a bunch of heat pipes and fluid-dynamic bearing fans for less than half the price of the D15, what's not to love?  But really with a 6 core chip, you could spend $20 on the assassin X and it'd still be plenty of cooling.

I would recommend at least a 6800XT instead. 6900XT is only a little more, but 6800XT should be plenty for that kind of work.

Hello, I was looking at your list and right now I can't recommend the newer AM5 CPUs from AMD. Until they solve the Voltage issue I'm not comfortable suggesting a new PC with these items. That being said I did stick with AMD and went with the Ryzen 7 5800X3D and paired it with RX 6750XT. I also switched out the PSU for a Thermaltake model because it is the new ATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 newer standard plus it's an A-Tier rated PSU and I think the SeaSonic is C or B Tier. The 5800X3D CPU is much better for gaming because of the extra Cache it has and if you turn on the 'SAM" feature in the Adrenalin software then it will boost the GPU performance quite a bit. "SAM" stands for Smart Access Memory. It only works with a AMD GPU I believe it will really turn up your gaming experience to a new level. It will out perform the 7700X.

I have been building PCs for 30 years so if you have any questions please ask. Also if you like this build and decide to go with it please mark it as the Solution.

Here is an Intel build if you wanted to go Team Blue. I'm not sure why you are not sure about the Thermalright Phantom Spirit or Peerless Assassin? They perform much better than the Be Quiet! Air and some of the Noctua Air Coolers. Thermalright is the "KING" of the Air Coolers right now. It has tons of 5 Star Reviews and even endorsed by top Tech-Tubers like Linus Himself, Hardware Unboxed, RobeyTech, Jays2Cents, Paul's Hardware, and many more.

Thanks for the suggestions! I probably should have been more specific, I wasn't sure if the cooler would match the case lol. I know with this tier of CPU most coolers would do fine so I kinda wanted one that matched the black case and it is hard to tell the color of the cooler from the pictures.

Thanks for the suggestions! I'll probably end up going with this. How viable is buying second-hand with some of these parts? I have no problem with doing that. Also, how much benefit would I get from having a small boot SSD with my windows install? I remember getting suggested that a few years ago and I wonder if it is true. Thanks!

Well the 5800X3D is fairly new and it only came out a few months ago. I really wouldn't get anything on this list second hand specifically the M.2 drives as they have a limited number of write times and you don't know how hard they were hit before you got it, the rest is a really big maybe, everything is so close to being new you would probably run into people selling them close to retail prices or over retail. The resell market is horrible and almost not worth it because of the prices, it's just as cost effective to buy brand new. At least you would get a warranty for new items.

As far as the Boot drives, I always try to go for a small boot drive separate from the larger files like game installs and media back up. Think about it, how long does it take to install Windows... 10 minutes at most these days if you use a USB 3.0 flash drive. Think about how long it takes to download a game and install it, a few hours per game maybe longer maybe less depending on download speeds and system speeds. If your OS ever gets corrupted it's just less of a hassle to have them separate drives plus they are so cheap these days it almost makes less sense not to have more than 1 drive.

Completely agree with the boot drives, but man am i happy i have good internet. I don't usually think of this when building PCs because here 1Gbps symmetrical fiber optic connection is less than €25/month (falls down to under €20 if you combine it with your mobile and TV plan) so basically everybody has it.
