3d printer for spare parts

Go to solution Solved by SignatureSigner,

PLA is ok for low(ish) stress and short-term use as it gets more brittle the longer it is exposed to moisture and light. (BUT ITS CHEAP)

ABS is better for long-term use with different stresses BUT can be a pain to print with as it requires lots of heat and ideally a temperature-controlled box around the printer to reduce warping.

Nylon and other types can be great but again they require well-tuned printing conditions and a printer capable of printing them.

What kind of spare parts would you be printing? If they are not exposed to lots of heat or stress PLA would probably work fine as long as you have good infill settings.

Hello,

i am new to 3d printing but eager to learn. I am interested in a 3d printer however i would primaraly use it to print spare parts for old farming equipment and the ocasional miniature. Any advice regarding the strength of 3d print, spool choice and so on. Thank you all.
