So I have been thinking about buying this cpu for a gaming build. I am just a bit nervous with the recent talk of it overheating, do you guys think I’d do better with Intel.

I want to get a hyte y60 case

msi 4090 suprim liquid

teamgroup ddr5 6000 64gb

7800x3d

samsung 2tb 980 m.2

Deepcool aio or any recommendations?

corsair 1200 psu platinum 80+

best fan recommendations?

I need to know what motherboards you all think would be best for this setup where my pc will be safe, I don’t really Overclock or anything…trying to go all out on this, I haven’t replace my rig in like 6 years

Yeah stay away from Asus and you'll be fine.
Make sure BIOS is updated tho.

Not only just avoid ASUS, but also Gigabyte. Source:

(ASUS seems to be the worst brand of the 2. Even if they fix the issue, them seemed to YOLO some stuffs, and that kind of behavior is not something I would support in hardware manufacturers)

Thank you for the quick response, I wouldn’t mind switching to Intel, I just don’t know how much I’d lose with gaming!

no need to switch with intel since it seems to be a problem with the motherboard not AMD's chip. Go with any other board except for ASUS (and GIgabyte) and you'll be fine

Very good point.

Altho i was merely talking about the insane decline ASUS has been going trough last 10 years.
Going from the absolute best, to having nothing but crap on the shelves.
Now even their top tier products are full of flaws and shortcomings.
And lets not even start on how bad their customer service has become. Should be called customer annoyance now.

Not sure if you watched that GN vid, but as a company, they seem to be horrible on a development/reading-instructions-from-AMD level. That's probably also why they removed several (older) BIOS versions from their site. (according to Tech Jesus)

I once got an AM2 motherboard from ASUS, very high quality, massive support. Even up to AM3 bios versions were provided unofficially. So I agree that ASUS used to be good. Used a Gigabyte motherboard for some time. (FM2) And the BIOS was somewhat meh, and not everything was 100%. When Ryzen first launched, Asrock was one of the best manufacturers when it came to fixing issues. And I mean, every board had issues. But Asrock was one of the fastest to respond, make statements, release newer BIOS versions and whatnot. And that's something you'd want IMO. Especially if the CPU you're trying to get, has some known issues. (as mentioned in the vid I shared)

Sidenote: would these issues make me switch to Intel? No. However, I might want to wait a bit before picking my mobo, and check which BRAND has the best support/PR for these issues.

Thank you!

At this point, as long as you follow the standard procedure of updating the UEFI on a new build, any motherboard but the 65W A620 ones will be fine. If you care for longevity and future support, the more premium boards usually get better support, in this case likely being the x670e or b650e chipset boards.

The difference between the chipsets don't matter for most people, but I'd at least stick with a b650e or higher for future upgrades.

Builder/Enthusiast/Overclocker since 2012 with a focus on SFF/ITX since 2014.

B650(m) aorus elite ax, b650 tomahawk wifi, or tuf b650, everything else is kinda irrelevant due to having worse i/o or worse pricing

Next tier up would be the async eclk boards which start at 370-420$ with the b650e aorus master, taichi, and x670e-a/f. Basically async eclk allows x3d overclocking and extra fine tuning for overclocking

As for chipset choice dont bother fussing about it, gpus wont be bottlenecked by 4.0 x16 for a long time and gen4 ssds are already useless for the majority of ppl not to mention gen5

Also if your cpu and board burn up due to a fault on the board warranty will cover both cpu and board so i wouldnt bother avoiding brands

Sorry but your post is pretty uninformed, GN analyzed the Asus boards issue which was too high SOC voltage, but didn't yet gave the details about the gigabyte issue, which also seems to be much less widespread

And anyway all vendors already released patched BIOSes correcting the voltage issue
