So I am planning on upgrading my GPU from RTX 2060 super to the RTX 4070ti and my CPU I currently have is a Ryzen 5 3700x. Is it a bottleneck if I don’t upgrade my CPU? Or it won’t bottleneck?

Hi there,

Yes it will bottleneck the RTX about 50%. That's a high bottleneck what you will notice in games.

Bit of a tech guy, converted to PC's when consoles did not entertain me enough, the last console being an Xbox, was fun with Halo multi-play though. But  the want to discover, to test, to learn more about computers drove me to levels I had never known...

Some GPU's I have had, 8800GTS 384MB, 7800GT, GEFORCE 4 MX440, 250GTS,  770 GTX, 1650 GTX, RTX 3050 Plus many other GPU's over the years...

The respect I have for LMG is massive like a black hole, sucking in all the knowledge, I watch their awesome video's, their knowledge is like that of a God. Seriously some say they are number 1 in the whole wide world. LMG is like the INTEL fabrication plant. Beaming with technology goodness...

It will bottleneck quite a bit.  I upgraded to an RTX 4080 and I ran a 9900k@5.1ghz all core overclock and it was not enough.. I had microstutters constantly and below average FPS for the 4080.   After upgrading to a 7700x I gained about 30-35% more on the average framerate ( in Hell Let Loose I went from 110 to 200+ fps ) and the constant stutter was completely gone.

Your CPU may severely bottleneck your GPU at 1080p, moderately at 1440p but not much or at all at 4k

Depends also heavily on games, Jedi survivor is CPU bottlenecked at any res on a 13900k 🤪!

You will have a pretty bad bottleneck with that combo, unfortunately. I would recommend the 5800x3d from amd, you also won’t have to upgrade your motherboard if you get the 5800x3d if you don’t want to. But I don’t recommend getting a 7000 series amd cpu or any Intel cpu, since those could require a bunch of upgrades, which is easier to deal without, and you would also have to buy at least some new parts regardless if you got a 7000 series amd cpu, or any Intel cpu.

I appreciate it. Which AMD CPU is good to have? I was planning on either the 7000 series or should I do the 5000 series CPU?

Here is what I said previously, I think this will help!

Again depends on resolution, with 1440p or 4k a 5000 even non 3d will do nicely, at 1080p you'd rather get a 7000 or 5800x3d

Just be warned that at 12GB of VRAM the 4070Ti is already on the edge of having trouble with 1440p. And it won't get any better with newer games. At this price range you are much better with RX 7900 XTX.

Yes. 5800X3D, 32GB of system RAM. Update your bios first.
