"Too tall" GPU?

Go to solution Solved by johnno23,

it should be fine. I only hope you have the type with the daigonal airflow at the front not the closed off solid panel type.

the case is pretty compact but with the open front panel airflow should be quite adequate. if it is the closed version then you might want to keep an eye on temps.

My current PC case is SFF, the Mechanic Master C24.  It allows GPUs up to 245mm long and 132mm tall.  Outside of FE cards, most GPUs from AIB companies are around 125mm tall, like the MSI Ventus or Zotac Twin Edge.  With only 7mm between the card and glass, is that enough space for heat to pass up?  Or should I stick to trying to obtain the shorter FE cards/cards that are the height of the PCIE bracket?

The card I'm interested in is this one, the RTX 4070 from MSI.

That should be enough space for heat dissipation, 7mm is plenty.

I use a Lian Li Q58 and my MSI Ventus 4080 GPU length is 2mm longer than what the case supports, had to take apart the front IO panel in order to install the GPU. The GPU still runs pretty cool, you have far more clearance than I do, I'm sure you'll be fine.

Awesome, thanks!   My case is the closed front version, but I put aftermarket feet on the bottom of my case, so there's over a 3/4" gap for air to come in the bottom panel without restriction!
