Budget (including currency): as low as possible but probs around 30-40$

Country: indo

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: mc server

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

Basically got a buncha money from relatives over the holidays so im curious about making my own mc server to play on with friends

For parts thatll be reused i got a p7h55mlx and an i3 530, board is garbage not allowing volt adjustment past 150bclk but i think ill get around that by pad modding the cpu, and even if that doesnt work ill problably just voltmod the board, its not sellable since its got a cmos defect (shuts itself off when pressing power button but completely usable when cmos battery is taken out and board is turned on via jumping the 24 pin) so id prefer to use this board. Currently it gets stuck at 16 code so ill have to give it a dunk in water

Also got a 160gb hdd with my w10 ltsc test os so i guess ill just use this hdd and see what i can do with the w10 ltsc install, wifi is taken care of by a pci wifi card but might wanna buy a pcie one cause ill problably be running this w/o monitor so postcode will be handy, and cooler ill just stick an h212 or something ontop the cpu

So all thats left is to buy the rams and the psu, rams wise already got 1 existing samsung 4gb stick (single rank) so just gotta buy another with the same ic to pair it with for 8gb or 12gb, and psu wise i dont feel like using my 450w cause that thing is ancient and inefficient and id rather not nuke the powerbills again

Spoiler

I do have a 550w dsa ii (effective 504w, 12v = 42a) thats 80+ bronze and it is currently alloted to the x58 rig so i may just swap that out for this 700w tundra (effective 648w, 12v = 54a, price = 18$) just for peace of mind on the x58 system and i dont really need that much wattage to power this server so not gonna run wayyy into inefficiency on a bigger psu. if the 700w tundra has any bad reports (many psu failiures) then please tell, otherwise refrain from reccomending other stuff cause i am absolutely not buying a psu 4x the price for the sake of branding or arbitrary tiers on a tierlist. No case cause ill just put the thing ontop another spare mobo box i have laying around

As for the mc server i think itll range anywhere from fooling around with beta 1.7.3 to playing around with modpacks like rlcraft, 5-10 players

So is an overclocked i3 (4.2-4.5) and 8 gigs of ddr3 gonna be enough for this mc server? i5 760 are 4$ if the i3 isnt enough

and are there any other things i gotta consider hardware wise, software wise, and network wise for an mc server? ill test port forwarding on my laptop before going out and buying stuff

If its just 1.7 its should be fine. But yeah, RLCraft chokes even on modern system with high IPC so curb your enthusiasm in chunk performance.

in terms of PSU though it depends on your risk tolerance right now. S12 line from Seasonic is pretty much the only safe pick and even then the thing doesnt have OCP so if PLN decides to be a dickhead to your grid, your PC would be a part of the toastening.

What kinda hardware would i need for that?

Also how would a vanilla 1.19 server run on it? I dont mind getting an i5 760 to upgrade the i3 cause things 4$ anyways

The hardware at risk here is worth a mere 20$ at most ignoring psu cost so i kinda dont care, just need the efficiency
