Just a quick one:

Two Gpus, one for encoding (stream, obs), one for gaming, any real benefit?

Just a longer one:

I've done a quick search of the forum, but couldn't find much information on it, and Reddit brings back threads that say it's a good idea, and some say it's a waste of money, so I am not too sure. I have two spare GPU's laying around; a 3060 and a Arc 750. I am a casual streamer at best, so it's not really a necessity, but if I have the hardware I might as well use it.

PC specs:

AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D 8-Core Processor
MPG X670E CARBON WIFI
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090

G.Skill Tridant 6000MHz CL30 DDR5

Kingston KC3000

I've checked my motherboard manual, and the x16 PCIE lane remains even if one is plugged into the lower x8, which was one of the points of concern when checking other threads. OBS is set to what Xaymar posted about back in 2019 for their nvenc encoder, and the programne is been ran as administrator.

As to why I ask; even though I am a casual streamer, games (say, POE) runs fine, I can hardly notice a performance hit (but there is a hit). The stream itself does lag often when Youtube is open in the background (Chrome hardware acceleration turned off), and lags heavily if I add another scene to OBSs view. If these small annoyances can be alleviated with a 2nd GPU, I'm all for it.

Kind regards,

Jack

Think you'll lose more perf by going 8x8x on your main GPU than what will be gained by doing stream on another GPU...

Way to go is a capture card or a cheap streaming PC

From what I can see in the motherboard manual, the main PCIE lane remains x16, even with a 2nd gpu plugged into the x8. (though I could have red it wrong).

A streaming PC seems like a lot of effort for what would be like a once every week or so stream; a 2nd gpu is quite painless in comparison.

...it would be a fun project though

Ho indeed you're on X670E big boi 🙂

Still don't think it's really worth it, need opinions from people actually doing it 😛

Aye, got a good deal off of Ebay, a rare find. Goolging just returns too much fluff to really find accurate data.

Maybe I should ask ChatGPT  🤣

So dual gpu streaming does quite severly impact performance from the main gpu as it now needs to send a duplicated stream of what it's displaying to a secondary card to encode to stream.

So literally all you are doing is losing performance if you use the 3060 and if you use the a750 you lose performance BUT you save a bit of data streaming and have a bit better quality.

Ah, yeah totally not worth it then... Shame that, I thought I'd finally have a use for another PCIE lane

TY for the help Jaslion 🫡
