this should be in troubleshooting section

regarding the statement, have u installed everything that you need to (graphics drivers, chipset drivers, bios) Also check your temps and power draw. Has this happened instantly or has this just come up recently and was working fine before?

all drivers are installed and cpu and gpu power and temps seem ok, it has been sluggish for a while but has just gotten progressively worse

would you mind installing cinebench r20, furmark and memtest86 so i can diagnose it a bit more (cinebench r20 tests cpu, furmark at 1080p max tests gpu and memtest86 tests ram)

oh ok, ye the 3400g on average gets about 4800 points in that so don't think thats the problem either. Has this been happening with games too?

Also i would take @PDifolco's advice if all else fails as it seems like the only way

yes it has. i have only really been playing microsoft flight sim and a couple days ago all of a sudden the cpu would continuously lag spike during gameplay

so it might be your power constraints from your mobo (i had this problem too with an old h510m a pro mobo and 10100f, @Tomberry will know what i'm talking about). Do you have msi afterburner and riva tuner installed? If not then install it so you can see the power draw of the cpu and gpu in game. Do you know how to configure msi afterburner like that?

hmm it could be. but looking at your specs in more deatail you are running a pretty low end cpu (pretty much all the ryzen apus excuding the 5600g and 5700g r not that good) and flight sim is a pretty cpu intensive game. also you are running 12 gigs of ram. check gpu and ram usage in the game. also did you check how full ur boot drive is. also what is the boot drive that you are currently using??

you could use hw info but that won't be available as an overlay in the game. geforce experience doesn't show cpu power draw. MSI Afterburner download: Afterburner (msi.com)

the drive is a TS480GSSD220S, cpu and ram usage is pretty high but not pinned and when viewing the debug fps windows (part of msfs) it shows the main thread and coherentgtui where both lag spiking into 50ms each multiple times a second

you got a cpu bottleneck then. RAM is fine if its like 1 gig below, but if the gpu isn't maxing with no frame rate cap on then its a cpu bottleneck. How much pwr is the cpu drawing btw?

Just now, filpo said:

you got a cpu bottleneck then. RAM is fine if its like 1 gig below, but if the gpu isn't maxing with no frame rate cap on then its a cpu bottleneck. How much pwr is the cpu drawing btw?

65 watts on cpu

i do have a cap at 60fps though
