Upgrading to windows PRO

I recently built a new computer at home for work and installed Windows Home using ISO (no license yet). My company provided me with a Windows Pro license. When I enter that key, I get the following error: "The product key you entered didn't work. Check the product key and try again, or enter a different one. (0xc004f050)"

I communicated with my admin and he told me I need to upgrade my version from Home to Pro in order for the key to work.

Therefore, I tried getting the generic key for Windows Pro to upgrade the OS and I am prompted with this error: "We can't activate Windows on this device because you don't have a valid digital license or product key. If you think you do have a valid license or key, select Troubleshoot below. (0x803fa067)"

 

Computer specs (in case it is a system requirement issue):

CPU: intel i5-13600k

RAM: corsair DDR5 32gb

GPU: EVGA GTX1060

MOBO: MSI Z-790 pro

 

Any ideas are appreciated.

Install Windows __ Pro?

 

Or do an in-place upgrade.

 

Home and Pro aren't the same installation.

i think theyre trying to do the upgrade and the pro key they have isnt an upgrade key

Create a new bootable USB and reinstall pro version instead?

yes , either that or have your work provide you with the install media that the key is for to eliminate their bias of whos problem it is to fix.

Maybe for a full retail key. I've done it with an OEM key and Windows wouldn't accept it.

In my case it was with grey market keys

OEM key worked for my laptop :x

So I ended up solving it by doing this.

I disabled my ethernet and wifi. I ran the Generic windows key to upgrade to 11 pro.

The upgrade went through. And then once I had the pro version, i entered the key I was provided and it worked like a charm.

I guess I just had to go offline
