My first computer build

Go to solution Solved by theskyblockman,

Thanks for the help! Here's the final list https://fr.pcpartpicker.com/user/theskyblockman/saved/tBjNpg

Budget (including currency): 2000€

Country: France

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: a lot of mobile applications and shaders compilation, playing video games (The Witcher 3 essentially) and some artistic work (Inkscape, Blender, GIMP and probably some others)

Other details

I have already made a list here, I already have 16 GB of DDR4 3200 Mhz RAM, a 2 TB HDD and a 1 TB HDD (I will buy a proper NVMe SSD later), first I wanted an AMD CPU and GPU, but I wanted to have the AM5 socket for future-proofing but I wanted to keep my DDR4 RAM so I couldn't have an AMD CPU, so chose an Intel 13700K CPU and with the "good value" of the 4070 I also took an nVidia RTX 4070 as my GPU hoping for good performance on Linux. My previous computer was a 800€ Acer pre-built. It had a 8400F and a 1650 in it, nothing crazy at the time. I upgraded because it my previous computer wasn't powerful enough for my development needs. Al so I use regular peripherals with 2 1080p 60hz monitors.

get the 5800x3d instead, still a really good gaming chip: https://fr.pcpartpicker.com/list/bQtj6r

btw the warning is just a bios update

Nvidia and Linux performance is still kinda butt AFAIK, but i know many power user are getting more and more ambivalent on that topic.

fat cost compression, and also better GPU.

Okay, as I can see it looks really good, thanks for the help!

The X3D variant of the Zen 3 is really good for cache-heavy workloads but the 13700 is definitely more geared towards general productivity workflow. Cross shop between the 2, and also the Ryzen 7 7900.

Also there's a review on the Cougar Archon 2 who said that the fan headers couldn't be connected to the motherboard. Do you know if this is true?

Yeah it is. But honestly its hard to find decent airflow case at sub 100 euros in France, you can also find Fractal Focus 2 in that range and that would have actual PWM fan.

Yes, I think that I going to take a Fractal Focus 2, but like you said before the X3D variant of the AMD processor is really good for cache workloads which is essential for good performance for compilation and renders, so I think I am going to stick with this configuration: https://fr.pcpartpicker.com/user/theskyblockman/saved/tBjNpg (I also took a slightly better GPU for a little clock boost)

You wont need X570, B550 Gaming X would have the same VRM build and itll be 100 euros cheaper.

But beyond that no big notes. Go there big guy.
