Why do commercials suck?

Whenever I see commercials I'm like "Really? Somebody got paid a bunch of money to write this crap?" They're never that funny, and they're rarely even clever. Like how do they expect to sell Hypoglycemorhybopholiate when it's just another montage of old people on a beach that nobody will remember? There mustt be a reason, but what is it?

Imho I think they make them just so you think, "Why the hell was that ad made?" and that way your thinking of their stupid ad, but nevertheless still thinking about it. Then you go and tell a person about such ad and they too think about it, and it spreads.

What are commercials? Oh those things I mute and then leave the room for to get something else done during the time it is on. Adblocker is also cool for the internets.

Not really, when something annoys me I intentionally forget it, what really sticks is really catchy tunes. There was a commercial for a car dealership that I heard when I was 4 living in Hawaii, it came on constantly, it was like 5 seconds, and it just was contact info on a blue backdrop, and a woman with a pleasant voice saying "Honda Windward, we'll make a believer outta you!" (I just turned to my sister who was like 2-3 at the time, said Honda Windward, and she repeated the exact tune) It was more than a decade later, and I still remember it. Why try making your commercial funny or entertaining or pleasant (and more importantly, costly) when all you need is a super catchy phrase and a blue backdrop?

Another example would be dollar shave club! They've already got me as a customer as soon as I need razors! All they did was something a bit outrageous, talked to my wallet, and now they've got me as a customer.

 

VAT19 too, all their ads are great, and make me want to buy their crap even though I know it'll end up in a closet!

 

Both these guys are smaller companies, but they have better marketing than any of the big guys!
