I was under the impression that the PCIe power connectors on graphics cards were standardized. The 6-pin can pull 75W and the 8-pin can pull 150W plus the PCIe interface can pull 75W as well. But the 295X2 supposedly pulls 500W from two 8-pin connectors which should only allow 375W to the card. But I did do the math and with the gauge of wire that power supplies use, they can technically output up to 14 amps and 12 volts per cable. Which means that a 6-pin or an 8-pin could max out at 504W. Although that would be unsafe, because there wouldn't be a sufficient about of grounded wires to handle that power. So does the 295X2 just use more amps than the PCIe standard allows or does it really only consume 375W?

The 295x2 breaks the pci-e specification. That doesn't mean it doesn't work though since high quality psus can power the card just fine.

Here another question than. Why does the PCIe specification use 5 ground wires and 3 power wires on the 8-pin when each ground can with stand the same amound of amps and volts?
