Budget (including currency):  about 700$ CAD

Country: Canada

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: mostly game like Americans truck simulator and Farming simulator 22.

Hi everyone, before I start I must say that English isn't my first language so please be gentle with me 😅

Iit tax return season and I'm planning to invest some money for a new build. I don't need any peripheral, screen , storage, GPU and PSU since I already got everything I need.

Actually I have a HP workstation with a Xeon E3 1240 v5 (basically a i7 6700) and a rx6600 xt

I'm going to keep my PSU , enermax revolution xt 530w, it gonna be enough for the next computer but it old and I'm planning to changing later.

Since I'm planning to keep this computer for a while I would prefer using ddr5. I'm also thinking using AMD platform since I already have a AMD GPU.

That what I got for the moment: https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/DCDwLs

The case is there only to give me an idea with the price. I'm going to look at them in store before I buy. But I'm looking for a mini tower matx. I would love to build in a itx format but motherboard in this size are so expensive

I'm going to buy everything from Canada computers since I got a store near me.

Thanks in advance for your help

I could also change for a 7600x if the price difference isn't big

Thanks in advance for your help

Only thing I’ll add is to get more storage but otherwise it is good also don’t get a 7600x it does not include a cooler but if you did want a better cpu you could try a 7700 non x if you can spend more money

for gaming i would go with the 5800x3d and its cheaper platform

Got a good build here: https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/j8zvBj

btw if you want to swap out the case for the Q300l then go for it

AM5 actually has an upgrade path (or should, unless AMD rugpulls everyone), AM4 doesn't (unless you're using Ryzen 1-3k). It does have good value though, the 5800X3D still ranks as one of the best gaming CPUs. I would recommend AM5, the prices are coming down and there *should* be a upgrade path in the future.

Are the games running poorly though? I got FS19 for free and it ran perfectly on my GTX 970 at 1440p and over 75FPS.

with mods on fs22 is pretty poor performance I'm also running 1440p screen but a 21:9. I can get over 40-50 fps and gpu stay stuck between 30-50 % usage and cpu is doing the same... I think then only thing that Could help in this case is to have a cpu that can push more IPC that the one I actualy have (not hard to do lol)

Doesnt matter when the board is lowend crap (i/o might get outdated, vrms problably fine) and the ram has mediocre garbage ic that cant hit 8000+ like the 5600c30 or 6000c32 bin rams with hynix a dies

if you want futureproof then get some 6000c32/5600c30 rams and a better board so when you wanna upgrade all you gotta do is swap the cpu and overclock the rams to keep up with your new cpu

Since the budget is tight if you cant push it up abit to actually futureproof your new setup

That should last a little while

https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/Ksg3Ls

You may consider just buying a used midranger b3/450 like the gaming plus/tomahawk, pro4/steel legend, aorus elite/gaming *insert number* if you wanna save abit of money

the ram config is far from optimal and since theres only 16mb of cache youll gain alot from an optimal ram config. Youll definitely have to look at used rams here, either 4 sticks of hma451u6afr8n or 2 sticks of hma42gu6afr8n in either 2133 or 2400 bin, both are the same thing with 4gbit hynix afr and you should be able to get them upto around 4000-4200 just lazily setting 1.45v and primaries to 22-28-28-52 (they dont do much for performance), though you definitely should tighten trfc trc trrd-l/s and tfaw as thats where your performance will come from, same goes for same rank different rank and different dimm tertiary timings (tighten the same type at once to speed up tuning) but this is optional and even without tightening itll still outperform those slow 3200c16 rams. cpu wise simply set static 1.35v or 1.4v vcore (itll vdroop anyways) and multiplier to 46-48 on all cores

Its just going to be barely enough so keep that in mind.

Except that DDR4 is still going to stay for awhile, and when DDR4 would be finally fully deprecated the DDR5 kit would hopefully fall to near price parity to the DDR4 kits of yesteryear. @Somerandomtechyboi got the best idea for cost compression, but this is an upcycle build of it which would have more bells and whistles. And also case recommendation.

Is this on intel IMC? AMD can barely hit stable 6k even with hynix dies on EXPO.

Yep

But im talking capability so when amd imcs stop sucking ass the rams can still keep up so no need to change kits when you get a better cpu down the line, some of the better intel imcs can do 8000-8400 and hynix a dies can still max that out

That'll do it, yeah.

Not on AM5, I also doubt that Intel 14th gen+ will support it at all. DDR5 is quite a bit more expensive than DDR4 right now but will hopefully drop in price, so you should be able to save some money in a few years' time.

Getting AM4 right now seems like getting Intel, neither platform offers/offered a real upgrade path.

Oh, I 100% agree then. DDR4 3600 CL16-19-19 starts at 85€, DDR5 6000 CL36-36-36 starts at 115€ (32GB each).

There also that I want to be in the latest Gen for once... The last time I buy a cpu that was still curren gen was my c2d e8400 .

I'll not Go on am4. The real reason of my post was to be sure if my config made any sense. I didn't build a computer since my second gen i3. And that my first modern and (last one was a Athlon X2 many years ago
