I have been trying to put together a parts list for my little brother who got his first job and wants to get into PC gaming. I have a list on PCpartpicker that I thought was a good starting point. I tried to go with things that would leave a good upgrade path for him in the future such as the AM4 socket allowing for some stronger processors than what I have picked out, as well as what I think is a fairly overpowered PSU. I would really appreciate some feedback on my build, as I'm not super experienced in this myself.

Budget (including currency): About $900 USD

Country: US

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Fortnite, Minecraft

the 5500 only support pcie 3.0.

AMD Ryzen™ 5 5500 Desktop Processor | AMD

The 5600 supports up to pcie 4.0. If you want your brother to have an upgradeable path for gpu's, the 5600 could be something you can aim for.

AMD Ryzen™ 5 5600 Desktop Processor | AMD

Other than that, I see nothing wrong.

(I'm not really experienced with computers, so i'm giving advice to the extent that I know of.)

You can get something a lot faster than this for $900 in the US.  You're overspending on a lot of parts that won't really benefit performance in any way (or anything really).

  • 5600
  • Aftermarket cooler with a fluid-dynamic bearing fan and 4 heat pipes.
  • B550 Motherboard with Bluetooth and WiFi
  • 32GB of 3200MHz RAM
  • 2TB gen 4 NVMe.  More than fast enough for any gaming use, anything faster is not gonna make any difference whatsoever.  More space will be orders of magnitude more valuable.
  • 6700xt will have every game running more than twice as fast as the 1660 super and it has more VRAM
  • 600w well-built PSU.  The PSU shroud on the case is huge so being non-modular isn't an issue, as there is plenty of space down there to tuck the extra cables away.  AMD recommends a 650w for the 6700xt, but that's to account for crappy PSUs and higher power CPUs.  The G600 is a good PSU and the 5600 sips power.  The system probably will never use more than 350w.  The 700w model is $15 more if you're interested.
  • Case with good airflow, 2 140mm fans for good air intake. $5 a piece is a steal for corsair AF140s.  1000RPMs is plenty for intake fans.  IDK if you get free shipping on a $10 order from corsair.com, but if not, they have a really good selection of refurbished peripherals and other stuff, and their refurbished stuff is always in perfect, indistinguishable from new condition.  Good option if you wanna get a nice keyboard or headset or something (could ship together for free shipping).  I got a K95 keyboard and a viruoso headset for $100 and $80 refurbished for my husband last christmas and they were flawless.
