Hard Drive not working

Brothers hard drive recently started making clicky sound.

 

 

Google says its probably a head crash. He says the computer hasn't been bumped of wacked recently for it to happen. It just randomly started when he turned on the computer The drive wont show up in bios or windows either. Would there be any options for recovering data from it or fixing the problem?

is this while doing something intensive (like reading or writing a lot of data?)

he is unable to do that as it does not show up on the computer at all

doesn't sound good then, has he made sure that the sata cables (both power and data) are plugged in correctly? Also how old is the drive?

All the cables are plugged in and working. The drive was brought new about 3.5 years ago

has he recently installed anything on the drive (if its not showing up its either failed or its a virus)

he says he hasent installed anything recently onto the drive. its likley it has failed then
