How much RAM do I need?

Go to solution Solved by RONOTHAN##,

16GB is still enough nowadays, but it's definitely starting to become a bit strained, and since the price difference between 16GB and 32GB is relatively small anyway so you might as well go to 32GB.

Considering 32GB but not sure if I actually need that much and if 16gb will be enough. It's for a first pc build.

PC build to do what? 8GB to 128GB could be the right number depending on the application.

for DDR 5 I went with 32 GB instead of the the traditional 16GB since 32 GB wasn't that much more expensive. No one ever said they have too muchmemory.

Just make sure more memory is not at the expense of speed and CL

If DDR5 32GB would likely give you better performance at the same speed/timings, due to the logical arrangement of the ram. If DDR4 probably wont be much different so less pressure to do so.

Moderate gaming (FH5, Cities skylines, etc.) and quite a lot of multi tasking.
There isn't much of a difference in price between 16gb and 32gb so I'll probably go with 32gb.

Cities skylines

If you get into mods for it that'll eat up more ram.

Yes I do use quite a lot of mods currently. I have 16gb of ram on my laptop and it isn't a great experience with Cities Skylines. Though it doesn't have a dedicated GPU and uses integrated so that could be why..

It is quite a CPU hungry game. My main system has a 3070 in it and often it runs as low as 20fps at 1440p, without mods.

Get 32MB, 16MB is at starting to see the sunset on some modern day games. 32MB will future proof you for the next several years and the price diff should be rather marginal in the end. Like Lurkin said, can't say I have every heard someone say "I shouldn't have bought that extra ram...". Unless they went crazy and got 128MB to watch netflix...
