Low fps "new" GPU...

So I have a problem...

Upgraded my GPU recently from HD 6970 (PC is new but didn't need better GPU as I only played CS:GO witch run fine for me 250fps low settings and 4:3 in 900p, also scalper prices in 2021 when I build it...).

Now I saved some money and got Vega 64, price was good and much better value then something new.

Works as expected, most 2017 games and older max settings 100+ fps in 1080p, except...

Minecraft...    YES, Minecraft....

On 32 render distance GPU and CPU usage is 10-20% and only 30fps...

I know Vega is not the best GPU there but I was expecting more from it in Minecraft, cant allow 12 y old GPU to almost beat it.

And as I lower render distance GPU usage increases, 50% usage on 10 render distance and 90-95% usage on 2 render distance with 900-1000 fps...

On high render distance (32) usage improves as I look in the ground and fps jumps to 250...

(fps was the same on mi old HD 6970...)

Tried many fixes form YT and forums but non worked.

Only this game runs bad like this.

New drivers and old ones removed with DDU.

CPU is i5 10400 so no problem there, should handle things fine.

16 GB ram of witch 8 is allocated to Minecraft in the settings, so no "not enough memory" problem as far as I know.

Vega has 8 GB vram so no problem there ither (HD 6970 has 2gb of slower vram and run the same).

700W PSU with 2 separate cables going in GPU so it should have enough juice...

Game is set on high performance in Radeon settings.

fps was measured in game and with MSI afterburner.

Pc power plan is set to high performance.

Mc is not pirated and launched from launcher.

No background programs running except discord, task manager clear.

Also temps are ok, 60-70*C max load in other games on GPU so no overheating issues as far as can tell.

CPU temps also good.

Tried other mc versions, 1.15  1.17  1.18  1.19...  no difference...

Game is vanilla with no texture or shader packs, also Java version.

Tried optifine on older versions witch helped with fps on old GPU, also no help.

But can you help?

ANY FIX is welcome and I will be thankful for it.

It is possibly something obvious I overlooked or something complicated I don't know how to do.

Any help will be appreciated.

And sorry for long post but wanted to give as many info as I could.

Was one of the fixes they said "update your graphics drivers"? The current AMD driver is 23.3.2, try updating your graphics driver if you haven't already.

turn your render distance in MC down
MC render distance being high hits the CPU super hard (only 1 or 2 cores, thus ~20% usage in taskmgr)
minecraft tends to be more CPU bound like that
for reference, 32 chunks makes my 5800X and RTX 3070 chug, so your system is probably going OMG STHAWP AAAAA

edit:
right click the CPU graph in taskman change the graph to show logical processors to verify the one or two cores thing
for my system, 16 chunks tends to be a happy 80 FPS with SEUS PTGI and 64X textures

you can do a lot of things to improve minecraft performance. there's the basic adding java arguments to make sure it has enough ressources.

I recommend installing fabric modloader and getting sodium, lithium and, phosphorus mods installed. it's a bit like how optifine has been recommended for a long time to remove lag spikes. except optifine modifies the rendering pipeline code to let you disable and change effects so it's banned for speed ruining. these mods aren't, they're all made by the same guy and they keep everything exactly like vanilla but you go from like 80fps to 250fps https://modrinth.com/mod/sodium

```
  • AMD Ryzen 5 2600 / AMD Radeon RX 580 (before¬†88 fps,¬†after¬†418 fps)
  • Intel Core i3-6100U / Intel HD Graphics 520 (before¬†17 fps,¬†after¬†73 fps)
  • AMD Ryzen 7 3700X / NVIDIA RTX 3080 (before¬†61 fps,¬†after¬†251 fps)
  • AMD Ryzen 3 3200G / AMD Vega 8 Graphics (before¬†58 fps,¬†after¬†173 fps)
  • Intel Core i5-3330 / NVIDIA GeForce GT 1030 (before¬†36 fps,¬†after¬†89 fps)
  • Intel Core i7-10700K / NVIDIA GTX 1660 SUPER (before¬†81 fps,¬†after¬†256 fps)
  • Intel Core i7-1165G7 / NVIDIA GeForce MX450 (before¬†45 fps,¬†after¬†156 fps)
Even for very slow or unusual machines, people often report significant improvements.
Possibly.
I will check and update if this is the problem.
Edit:
I run Minecraft now and individual cores have a lot of spikes in usage, 45-75% usage.
So theoretically there is still some headroom but this could be the problem.
Any fix or am I stuck with 16-20 render distance.
Forgot about sodium, used it a while back on my old laptop worked like a charm, gonna give it a shot again as it seams.
Thank you.
