Technically i7-3770 but it's not a big upgrade from the i7-2600

Agreed. At this point DDR4 upgrade would be in place.

Perfect timing for that anyway, as those parts are still capable of high tier performance, while being cheap. Especially on AMD's side.

Assuming your motherboard doesn't have an express chipsets, and isn't limited to 2000 series Intel CPUs, 3000 series would be the way to go, but only if you get a really good deal.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

2600k and 3770k exist but wouldnt bother with those if you already got a 2600

 

Btw what mobo? If you have a z board you can take advantage of the limited unlock and also use abit of bclk, 105 is average but some cpus can do 108+ but those are usually golden chips, lower temp also helps. Max allcore multi is 40 so if you run 105 bclk that 4.2ghz, 110 bclk is 4.4ghz

 

Currently testing z/p bios flashing on an h61m-e but these bioses are really stubborn and the only one that seems to be able to work (p8z68 deluxe) gives stupid corruption error, should be able to mess around with overclocking if i do find a working bios

If you have a high end motherboard, and you can find an unbeatable deal (that is, almost free), a 3770k is pretty much your best in-place upgrade option.

 

Otherwise, hold off and keep saving for a platform upgrade.
